Dans POV

Dan shifted his focus to across the room, trying to steady his breathing because right now he was crumbling inside. He could feel all the memories flooding back, being cornered, trapped. He couldn't handle it, he snapped.

He pushed past Phil and attempted to run to his room, Phil however grabbed his right wrist, causing Dan to let out a shriek of pain, pulling his wrist away and to his chest. Phil looked confused but Dan didn't stick around to see what was next as he quickly made his way to his room, forgetting to lock the door.

He climbed into his bed, pulling the covers over his head so that he was surrounded by darkness. He let the tears fall. Why him? Why had this happened to him? He missed his life before all this, why had he messed everything up?

Phil POV

Phil followed behind Dan only to have the door slammed shut behind him, but not locked.

Dan hadn't locked the door.

Phil stood in a confused dilemma. Open the door or not? He wanted to, to finally find out what was wrong and to get answers, but that would invade his privacy and this could ruin everything even more, if thats possible.

Phil decided against it, and walked slowly to his room, grabbing a pair of blue sweat pants and a white t-shirt to change into. He couldn't help but still have the urge to open the door and ask all the questions he wanted the answers too.

Phil got changed and decided to read for a bit. He decided to re-read his favourite book series 'The Maze Runner'. He couldn't help but relate to the characters within the story. Thomas, the unlikely hero, the incredibly sassy Minho and the beautiful tragedy that was Newt.

Phil sighed, the more he thought of Newt, the more he related his characteristics to Dan.

Both are beautiful tragedies.

He opened the cover of the book, smiling at the familiarity of the title page and the joy that it brought. Scanning his eyes over each page brought him peace as he escaped into the story, became one with the characters and thus, for the first time in a while, was at peace.

Phil was unaware, however, that as he was reading his book, emerged and at peace, only a few doors down was his roommate crumpled up under his covers, crying his heart out. Lung burning, chest heaving and eyes bloodshot, he was the furthest away from what people would refer to as beautiful and peaceful and closer to an unstable wreck about to collapse upon itself.

Phil POV
A few hours had passed and he had decided to stop his reading for the day, delicately placing his book back into his bookshelf, keeping the set in chronological order. As he stepped out the room he was not surprised to see Dans door still closed and thus Dan still closed off inside.

Phil let out a huff. He wanted to help him, yet he didn't want to be helped.

The rest of Phil's day went by quite uneventfully yet relaxing. Once night had fallen, Phil heard Dans door creek open and footsteps walk toward the bathroom, the door closing behind him with the water turning on shortly after. Phil gathered his pyjamas and headed towards the bathroom to wait until Dan was done showering to have his own shower. The water turned off and after a few rattles and thumps the door handle rattled open and a half naked Dan emerged from the other side.

Gasping in what Phil read as a mix of fright, fear and anger, Dan scurried to his room quickly but Phil caught a glimpse of something odd.

Dan was wearing thick black bracelets? Dan never wore bracelets?

Phil decided to shrug it off and have a shower of his own, ignoring the pestering thought that the bracelets were odd.

But then again, everything was odd.

Phil finished his shower, got dressed and headed to bed hoping to get a decent night sleep and trying to push the thoughts of his closed off friend a few doors away.
