"Wayne, could you pass me the wood?" Nanami was at the base, plucking off the old nails from the stained boards of the bridge.
"Sure. 'Ere ya go. Ya want me to help ya with that?"
"That'd be great. Thanks!" She handed me the hammer and picked up up the wood I gave her in order to work on the pillars.
Everybody is pitching in right now to renovate the rundown bridge here in Westown.
"Brad, could you lift this up?"
"Sure, right on it!"
It was a group effort and it didn't exactly take too long. Just an hour really. Our jobs were divided equally and the flow went smoothly. In no time at all, we were able to finish the bridge.
"It looks amazing!" Nanami stared in awe at the now new and improved bridge. We each tried to cross it just to check the sturdiness and it was as expected.
"We did it!" We all exclaimed. Each one of us felt happy and satisfied at this bridge that we accomplished and I felt that we became closer as much more than a town but as a family as well.
Megan went to the front and we all waited as she gave a small speech. "Thank you, Nanami. And thank you to everyone who helped out as well. We couldn't have done it without all of you."
We all cheered in response at that and were dismissed. Nanami left earlier saying that she had farm work to do. Meanwhile, Megan stopped us and suggested that we throw a party in commemoration for the bridge and also Nanami's welcoming party. It would be two birds with one stone.
We all thought it was a great idea and decided to prepare for it at Brad's place.
"Hmm... What would be a great gift for Nanami." I kept pondering as I was delivering the mail today.
"I'm so happy! I've been waiting for a letter from my husband for forever. Thank you, Wayne!" a girl who I know by the name of Lillie is at an inn in Westown for a business trip for some time. The moment she saw me from below her bedroom window, she ran down just to get the letter.
When I gave her the letter, she gently opened the envelope and read its contents. "Ohhh, my heart feels so full now." Unknowingly, she hugged me out of spite and shook my hand. "Thanks again! I'll be going inside now!"
"Sure. Have a great day, Lillie. You look lovely today with that smile of yours, by the way."
It's times like this that I'm thankful to have been been working at a post office. Seeing people connected through letters and you being one of the reasons for that is just fulfilling.
"You too! Bye!"
"Oh wait, Lillie," the door opened halfway before she turned around again.
I shook my head. "No, never mind. Sorry about that."
"It's fine! Have a great day!" With that, she closed the door behind her. She's probably going to reread that letter she got. I'm happy for her.
I was going to ask her on what would be a good gift for Nanami but that would be unrefined. I should give Nanami a gift that came from myself.
Now, what would be a good gift... Some farm seeds? No, I'm not good in determining what farm seeds are good and bad...
How about-
"Wayne!" a regular customer at the post office ran over to say hi. She smoothly links arms as we go up to the stairs to Postino. "How was work?"
"It was a little tough but seein' your beautiful face had shooed all the problems away, Katie." I wink and Katie's face turned into a flush of red.
