Crowds cheering my name, bright lights shining in my eyes, this was it, my chance of becoming the first women champion of boxing against a man.
Palms were sweaty, I could feel my legs shaking beneath me, my trainer Charlie giving me guidance and faith to believe.
"Ava you've come this far girl, just one more fight and your father would have been so proud".
If only if only my father was here now to see me, to see the woman I have become.
Facing me across the ring I could see his eyes glaring into my soul, the sweat pouring from his face. He was none other than my opponent the only thing that stood between me and my title for the belt.Putting my gum shield in and walking across the ring, I'd never felt fear like this before. I mean I've been scared of some things, but this was a whole new meaning to the word 'FEAR'.
Listening to what the ref had to say, I just concentrated on those eyes, show no fear, show now pain. Those words are what my father always use to say before he had a fight or before he would put me to bed and tuck me in at night.
Before I knew it we touched gloves ready and waiting for the first bell to ring?
'DING, DING'
Walking out, circling my opponent I went for my first swing, missed but never mind keep going, all I could hear was Charlie shouting at me
"Come on Ava gloves up, don't put your guard down, remember what I taught you".
Then I saw him, standing there at the top of the balcony waving at me.
"Dad is that you?"
Just that spilt second is were it all went wrong. Feeling a sharp pain on the left side of my face and my feet slowly lifting off the ground, I realised then I'd been hit by surprise. Slowly I could feel the gravity pulling me down to the ground. As I looked up towards the ceiling and one bright light was blinding my vision. My dad's face appeared again, this time he was sad and nodding his head from side to side. I knew I had messed up, my only shot at becoming big has gone wrong.
Slowly still falling I could hear the faint sound of a beautiful bird chirping in my ear, then everything went dark???Sun shining through my windows, I lifted my head from the pillow. Pulling back the blanket I realised it was another bad dream. Turning to face the mirror, I looked a mess eyes were glazed and my hair sticking out from all directions like I had been electrocuted by lighting.
Sweet sounds of birds chirping outside my window was what woke me from my dream, for the past week I'd been having the same dream always ending the same way. Was it fate?? Or just my mind going in to over drive??
You see my name is Ava Green and I live in a very small town in califonia, with my uncle Charlie. Well his not really my uncle but his raised me since I was 10 after my father had past away. I never knew my mother as she left when I was just a baby. My father was then left to raise me on his own in between his career as a heavy weight boxer. My childhood had always been happy memories with my dad, he took me to every fight he had, and Charlie was his trainer and also his best friend since they were kid's in diapers.
Then of course things went bad when I turned 10. Charlie has raised me ever since and I haven't made it easy for him. I was always causing fights at school, lashing out at anyone who tried to get close to me again. 11 years on I've got better with trusting people again and I'm not so harsh on Charlie, he wanted me to keep my head down and get my grades at school. But I failed, so he gave me a small job at the gym were he use to train my father.
Just a cleaning Job there but I don't care the only reason I do this work is to be in gym, I love the feel of the atmosphere the guys in there sweating and determined to become big for there dreams.
reminiscing over the past I turned to look at the clock
"Shit I'm late, Charlie is going to kill me".
Rushing around grabbing my clothes, I quickly brushed my hair into a pony tail got dressed and out the door.
