Bursting through the doors at the gym, the wind still blowing my hair. I quickly walked in and raced over to my locker. Just as I was about to undo the lock, I felt eyes on me from behind, I knew Charlie was standing there swaying his head in dissapointment.
"Ava, do you know that your two hours late!! How many more times do I have to tell you if you want this job as much as you say you do, all I ask is that you show up on time?" Charlie said with the slightest bit of anger in his voice.

"Sorry Charlie, lost track of time this morning won't happen again I promise". Trying not to turn around to face him. I didn't like seeing the expressions on his face, he always had a weird squint in his eyes, use to always give me the chills, like no matter what you said or done he never believed a word of it.
Can't blame him through the shit I put him in when I was younger no wonder he had a hard time trusting what I said.

As Charlie walked back into the gym, I got changed into my uniform ready for another day of work and training.
Charlie had been training me for the past two years, not full boxing though like I'd ask for like my father. No he was training me like I was some sort of child just basics. Of course not that I wasn't grateful but you see the town were I live, men pretty much rule the place, your average woman round here was just a basic housewife, looking after children, washing and chores. Pretty much a boring lifestyle.
All police officers and law were all men I mean we're in the 21st century yet there being treated like we lived in 18th??
Nothing made sense and Charlie wondered why I was different. I didn't want to grow up and just be a wife and bear children, I wouldn't to be somebody, I wanted to be something, make it big in this world have my name in bright lights on side of buildings. For people to recognise who I was, have my autograph and put my stamp on this earth. I don't want to be a nobody that people will just forget about.
To be honest I'm not surprised my mother left me and my father she probably wanted the same thing, it's more than likely were I get my ambition from her.

Gathering up my equipment from the closet, I grabbed my work schedule to see what needed to be done today.
Mens locker room
Toilets
The ring etc
Just the same old shit different day.

"Hi Ava, see your here late again, maybe you should have a better alarm clock".
That was Tony one of the amateur boxers here. Always making fun of me but also in a weird sort of way trying to flirt, I don't think he realised that I noticed at times but he makes it pretty obvious. I've known Tony since I was in grade school, was always the most. annoying kid in class but he always made me laugh and I think that's how we became quite close.
He always understood me like no one else, whenever I wanted to get away he was always there to listen and talk me in to coming back and staying.
I guess we grew up and drifted apart even though his Charlies nephew he still counts as a close friend the only person who managed to get close to me.

Ignoring what Tony said I set off to start my work for the day ahead what was left of it anyway.
Dipping my mop into the hot water in my bucket, I decided to start near the ring first. Watching those guys work up sweat, sparring around with each other, it made me ever so slightly more determined to do something.

Going with my gut feeling I decided to pluck up some courage from somewhere and talk to Charlie about training me properly to fight.
I remember reading books a couple of years ago on boxing and that they were all about men fighting against men or woman fighting against women. What if by some miracle I were to change the course of history and become the first woman to fight against a man?? All you can do is try and push for it surely? I mean who is standing in my way? Apart from Charlie and the rest of the town to contend with? But that wasn't about to stop me!! I am Ava Green daughter of David Green and I will become someone I will. But for now I had to pluck up the courage to speak to Charlie this should be fun..........
