"Be good. Listen to whatever the judges or workers tell you to do."
"Okay."
"Call me every night."
"Okay."
"Don't eat too much sugar."
"Okay, Mom."
"Here's a hundred dollars. Don't spend it on something stupid."
"Mom! I'll be fine!" I stop her from continuing. "It's only five days."
"I know." She starts smoothing down my hair. "I'm not used to you being on your own."
"I won't be on my own. I'll have a roommate and other people my age will be here." I pull her hands away.
Mom pulls me in a tight embrace. "You're my baby girl, though."
"Help me." I mouth to Riley who is laughing behind her back.
"Mom, she'll be fine." He pulls her off of me.
"Really. Now I have to go. The bus is leaving." I hug Riley. "I love you guys." I turn around with my grey duffel bag over my shoulder. I set my bag by the other ones before heading to the bus.
"That looked embarrassing." A boy with blonde hair falls in to step with me. "Don't worry. My mom was the same." He points to a woman who is weeping. "I'm Niall Horan."
"Carter Shay." I smile. "If I know my mom well enough. She will yell something that will embarrass me in three, two, one."
"Goodbye, baby girl! Don't forget to buy tampons just in case." She shouts on cue.
Everyone around me bursts out laughing. Niall attempts to hold in his laughter, but fails horribly.
"Now I'll be known as Tampon Girl." I laugh stepping on the white bus.
"My mom isn't that bad." Niall continues laughing. We find a three seated in the back by the window. Niall takes the window seat and I slide in next to him.
"Lucky you." I mumble.
"Niall! Niall wait!" His mom runs to the bus window. "Don't forget that I love my little baby boy. Call me every night or I'll take away your xbox."
I burst out laughing. Niall turns a bright red and looks away from the window.
"I love you!" She waves. "Oh! You're sitting by a pretty girl! Did you know that Niall played with Barbies when he was younger because he thought G.I Joes-"
"Bye, Mom!" Niall cuts her off.
I laugh even harder. The bus begins moving as I clutch my stomach. "I thought your mom wasn't that bad?"
"Shut up." He mumbles.
"I thought my mom was embarrassing. Your mom is way more embarrassing." I try to calm down.
Niall glares at me. "I was hoping she wouldn't have done that."
"It's okay. We can be embarrassed together. I'll be Tampon Girl and you can be Barbie Boy." I say with a small laugh.
"At least I'll have one friend." Niall smiles at me.
"Very true." I agree staring out the window. My phone starts vibrating in my jacket pocket and I pull it out. "I hope this isn't my mom." I unlock the screen on my iPhone.
'The back of your head is beautiful.' The text reads showing a number I don't know.
"What the heck?" I stare at the message feeling creeped out.
Niall glances over. "That's creepy."
"You're not the one getting the text." I turn my head around to see the back of the bus. In the far back, is Louis Tomlinson. He waves at me smiling. He holds up his cell phone. How did he get my number?
'Louis?' I text back turning around.
'That is correct.'
"Hey, can one of my friends move up here?" I ask Niall.
"Sure." He shrugs.
'Come up here.' I text back.
A few minutes later, Louis slides in the empty seat next to me. He is wearing a pair of loose jeans and a white v-neck shirt. A red sweater is over his shirt with a black scarf around his neck. Red Toms are on his feet. "Hey."
"How did you get my number?" I ask immediately.
"Your friend Riley." Louis grins. Riley. I should have known. "Hey, I'm Louis." He leans over me with his hand out to Niall.
"Niall Horan." He shakes his hand.
"You both know me already." I say.
"I like your Toms." Louis comments on my shoes.
I look down at my shoes. I decided to wear my favorite red pair to match my outfit. I'm wearing black skinny jeans, red long sleeved shirt with a black leather jacket.
"Thanks. I practically brought all of my Toms with me."
"How many do you have?" Niall leans on the window.
"With me now or all together?"
"All together." Louis answers.
I start counting how many pairs I have in my head. "About twenty."
Niall let's out a low whistle. "That's a lot."
"These are my favorite shoes." I shrug.
"I have twenty three." Louis smirks. My jaw drops open. Someone has more Toms than me? That's crazy. No one has ever had more than me. "Close your mouth, love. Don't want any flies."
"What song did you sing at the auditions?" Niall easily changes the subject.
"Hey There Delilah by The Plain White T's." Louis answers before I can.
"Wasting Away by Tonight Alive." I say.
"Wait. You sang that?" Niall straightens up. I nod my head slowly. "Everyone has been talking about how good you were."
"Really?"
Niall nods. "They are saying how talented you are. The audience and judges loved you."
This is so weird to hear from other people. I have been a good singer, but my dad made me believe I wasn't. It's so strange.
