I couldnt believe how fast they each reacted to my grip loosening on their shirts, because as soon as I let go they went at eachother like maniacs. I couldnt even understand who the punches and hollers were coming from because they were just a mass of tangled arms and legs and firey red faces fueled by nothing but adrenaline. For a moment or two I stood stunned on the sidelines as tables around us erupted into cheers and confused conversation like they werent watcing two of their peers attack eachother, but like they were some sick bystanders watching a dogfight.

I couldnt take anymore of it, so I ran out of the cafeteria.

~~~~~
I had never skipped class before, and I guess I had expected more of a rush than this, though technically I wasnt skipping, I had just left.
Currently I laid on the couch in the lounge eating vanilla ice cream out of the container, replaying the afternoon in my head. I had caught a few words between the punches and yells, some of which I couldnt figure out a relation. I had assumed their hatred of eachother had been for a trivial reason, like they thought the other was annoying, or maybe even out of jealousy or a past girlfriend. Yet the strange thing is, I caught onto words like 'operation' and 'faith'. What would an operation have to do with their hatred of eachother?
There was a knock on the door while I disputed in my head whether maybe one of them was ill and needed an operation. No, now I know for a fact Im just making things up.
I opened the door to Austin's puffy red face. "Austin..." I began, but he just shook his head, so I opened the door a bit wider and we headed to the lounge.
"Im so sorry about this morning, Bri, you left before I could say anything!" he started.
"Its fine, why arent you in school either? Oh wait, let me guess, suspended?"
"Ding ding ding, correct!" he chuckled, wincing and grabbing his side. My eyes grew wide and I anxiously moved closer to him on the couch, gently touching the fabric of his shirt over the wound.
"You... broke a rib?" I managed to choke out. Fighting was never in my territory exactly. I can talk a lot of trash, but fighting scares me to an unimaginable degree. Too barbaric for my taste, I guess.
He managed to nod before sitting back and letting out a muffled line of curses. I smirked, not at his pain, but at how comfortable he seemed around me even though we had only talked once. Strange.
I stood, told him I would be right back, and headed into the kitchen to get him some water. When I came back, he was passed out on the couch, his eyes fluttering lightly. He looked so peaceful and elegant, his hair wisped gently to the side with one arm over the back of the couch and the other softly holding his rib.
I tiptoed over to the couch, placing down the water and throwing a blanket over his lap. His eyes fluttered open but ceased to open again as he drifted wearily to sleep.
~~~~~

About an hour later while I was doing the dishes, I spun around and was met by two green, smiling eyes. i gasped, grabbing my heart. "Austin! Your gonna give me an ulcer, I swear!" I laughed gently, looking up at him. Even with the black eye, cuts, and various bruises he was still stunning in the dim lit kitchen light.

Leaning against the doorframe, he asked, "You didnt try anything on me while I was out, did you?" A smirk played at the corners of his lips, so I decided to play along.
