9 November 2016, Wednesday

The five of us, Kayce, Jordanne, Suri, Me and a beaming Malia found a table inside The Sugar Packet which was quickly filling up with sugar deprived student athletes. I spotted a few taking as many as eight little packets of sugar from the counter. Meanwhile, I was trying to detox before the holidays started, I knew I was bound to eat from a secret stash of candy by my bed. The temptation was often too great for me to resist a KitKat or Snickers bar. Tina once found me asleep on the floor with candy wrappers stuck to my face a few Summers back. I must've been about 12 or 13 back then. My soft chuckles were interrupted by Valen clearing his throat.

"Hello Haley darling. Liddell girls can be absolutely horrid sometimes but don't mind them, you have me on your side," he smiled reassuringly and clapped his hands. "So, how is your green tea detox going?"

I stared at my cup of sad looking green tea and then at all of my friends' delicious looking specialised and created in the TSP labs drinks. Jordanne sipped a tiramisu macchiato (with extra cream) from a cute peach coloured cup, she also sank her teeth into a biscotti while smirking at me.

And who was the one who said they wanted to go on a crazy detox and workout plan to make the netball team next year?

Malia and Suri both ordered a chocolate root beer float (another scoop of ice cream please!) topped off with sugar cookies that made my eyes go green with envy. I gritted my teeth and looked away, my gaze only to fall on Kayce's plate which was filled to the top with all sorts of sweet treats. My blood sugar levels went up just by looking at the mountain of candy stacked up.

I bet that was a marshmallow cream stuffed chocolate muffin on the left. It was not as tasty as the ones in Leaves and Beans but I guessed it was just my personal preference. At first, everything at The Sugar Packet sounds like how a gross and distasteful stew would sound but once you have tried it, you'll never regret doing so. Believe me.

Kayce dangled a jam filled biscuit which was toasted to a perfect golden brown. She waved it around the air while the rest of my friends sniggered. I could almost feel my mouth watering at the sight of food.

Control yourself Haley. Self-control is key. No more sugars for today, you already had like three...maybe thirty-three cookies today, all of which were coated in a thin layer of coarse sugar.

But it was a thin layer right?

I sighed, swatting my friend's hand away gently. She shrugged and simply placed the cookie into her own mouth, crunching and commenting on how good it tasted. I snorted and turned away.

My body went rigid, stiffer than the gold plated medals that hung from Malia's neck.

Look who showed up to the party.

Mikayla Summerfield stepped into The Sugar Packet with her arm wrapped around a dark haired and tanned skin...man? His face was too...mature to resemble at high school student's. He cropped his hair short and wore geeky dark framed glasses that made him somewhat a 'hot nerd'. He was not exactly the tallest guy I've seen, definitely shorter than Shawn but he seemed like the athletic type.

Whispers fluttered around softly the second he tucked his arm around her waist.

Oh.

"That's Jonah Arian. Mikayla's soulmate."
...
I fiddled with the belt of my camel coloured duster coat, the long coat hid my new knee rip jeans but did accentuate my legs to give the illusion that I was much taller than my height.

Jordanne eyed the new couple warily, she tapped her nails on the table and I knew Kayce got extremely ticked off by that sound but she had concentrated her attention somewhere else.
