I peered out of my window and through the slight fog, looking over to the house across the road to see Jessica leaving.

Quick, before you miss her!

I wanted to move, I wanted to go and talk to her, but I was frozen. I couldn't do anything.

Jessica Ford was the most beautiful girl I had ever laid eyes on. She gave me butterflies, got me tongue-tied, and made me forget who I was. I had never had a crush as big as this one, never in a million years.

I didn't understand why I was so attracted to her. Yeah, she was gorgeous, but she didn't know who I was.

"Jamie? Could you get the door please?" My mum stuck her head into the living room.

I walked casually and easily down the hallway, but froze up again the minute I saw who was at my front door.

"Hi! I'm Jessica. Jessica Ford." She smiled politely.

"I know." Damn damn damn damn damn. You idiot! "Uh...Jamie King. My name's Jamie." I tried to save myself, but I knew she'd noticed. Of course she noticed. Who wouldn't notice? You practically shouted it, for god's sake. You need to just bury yourself. Oh my god, SHUT UP!

"Nice to meet you, Jamie King. One question, how do you know me?" She laughed, a bit awkwardly but not noticeable as...well, awkward. Wow. You make so much sense. Shut up. Why should I? Because you're full of rubbish. SHE ASKED YOU A QUESTION, JAMIE.

"Oh, sorry, dazed out. I go to your school. Well, not your school. You know what I mean. Or do you? Never mind. I go to... We go to the same school." I finished lamely. She laughed again. Great. Now she's laughing at you. You're a fool.

"Okay, we go to the same school, I get it!" She giggled a little. She's so cute. "Anyway, my mum told me to come and ask if your family is coming to the party on Saturday? Everyone in the neighbourhood is going, but I don't want to go, there'll be no teenagers there. If you came, though, maybe we could chill? If you want to, that is."

"That sounds lovely!" My mum said from behind me. Really, Mum?

"Wonderful!" Jessica giggled. "I'll get my mum to come and talk to you about it, I'm not sure about the details exactly. Jamie, are you ready? We could walk to school together if you'd like?"

"Sure, I'll just get my bag." I seemed calm. I think. OH MY GOD! Jessica Ford asked to walk to school with me. ME. Of all the people in this street. True, none of them go to our school, or any school, they're all over 40, but whatever. She- Jamie, for god's sake, get the damn bag already.

Inside, I was freaking out. I was going to walk into a lamp post, I knew it. Or something else. I would make a complete idiot of myself, and she'd never speak to the weirdo, a.k.a. me, ever again.

We talked about nonsensical rubbish as we walked until we came to the school gates. "So Jamie, enjoy the rest of this fine morning." She grinned at me. It was getting more foggy by the minute, so her sarcastic comment obviously made me laugh, but it was definitely more than I needed to.

I let out a snort, then covered my face in embarassment as I turned bright red. I knew I would mess up. Only I would do that. Why the hell did you snort, you lunatic?!

Jessica took my hands away from my face. Her hands are soft. Don't start.

"You're cute."

AAARGH SHE THINKS I'M CUTE OH MY GOD HELP ME YES!!

"Uh, thanks."

OH MY GOD SHE SAID I'M CUTE OH MY GOD SHE SAID I'M CUTE SHE'S THE CUTE ONE AWW SHE'S SO CUTE SHE CALLED ME CUTE!!
