The girl sighed. She had been told to come here by an elusive text. She knew she shouldn’t have come but her curiosity had been won over her common sense. The empty house that she was standing in had several broken windows and was completely devoid of colour. She shivered. Something was wrong.
The creature slithered along the floor, his scales shimmering in the moonlight. He could smell the girl. He licked his lips hungrily. How he wanted to have her for his tea. But Master had said to wait, and Master was positively irritable these days.
The girl moved into another room with tentative steps. Her mobile phone vibrated. She warily retrieved it from her jeans’ pocket. The number was blocked. “Are you in the house?” With shaking hands, she replied in the affirmative. Her instinct was telling her to run away but she was frozen in step.
The creature hissed impatiently. He wished Master would stop playing with the girl soon. It wasn’t fair. He would die within the next few days if he didn’t feed soon, because he hadn’t hunted in weeks. Master knew this. Master was the one who stopped him from hunting, as a punishment for previously disobeying him.
The girl was now petrified. She could hear a strange noise, it sounded like hissing. Her mobile phone vibrated again. But this text message was from her mum “Clara, where are you? Are you alright?” Clara winced. She checked the time on her phone. She should have been home an hour ago. She sent a quick reply to her mother, saying that she was fine and the bus had broken down. Clara felt sick. She detested lying, especially to her family.
The creature smiled as he felt his scales tingle. Master was nearly finished. Maybe Master would be pleased with him after this and never withhold food again. Maybe
Clara finally decided to leave. But a voice stopped her.
“I wouldn’t leave if I were you”
“Who are you?” she asked, her voice quivering
“Call me Master” he said coldly, “However it won’t matter. You’ll be dead in a few hours”
“Why?”
“Well, Clara, it all started with your father.”
“My father. My father is dead!” Clara interrupted.
“My, my, we are impatient, aren’t we? Yes, he is dead. I made sure he was disposed of, after he got too close to the truth. You see, dearest Clara, I am known as Typhon. Your father was researching them and he found out what I was. He confronted me and threatened to go to the press. But I couldn’t have that, could I? So I murdered your father, right here in this room. I left his body outside your house and I left the country. But now I am back, to kill you”
“No!”, Clara screamed, her skin translucent.
“Yes”, he snarled, “Stupid girl”
“Tell me one thing”, Clara said, “Why would you want to kill me? I don’t know anything about what you are.”
“You don’t” he admitted “But your mother does, and you are all your mother has left. Goodbye Clara Ellis”
With a call of “Amadeus”, the silver creature slithered into the room, and crawled onto Clara’s neck. Clara screamed as she felt herself choke and fought as hard as she could, but it was too late.
The next morning, Clara’s body was found outside her house, accompanied by a silver scale, and a piece of paper with one word on it: revenge.
The End
