"David! Time to wake up!"
Bright light pierced my eyes as a young boy with blonde hair and green eyes shook me awake. Right, that was just a dream. It's only Pearson here, there's nothing to worry. But I've been telling myself this every morning.
"Come on! we have to set up in the market today, or are you going to skip out on me?" He complained while trying to pull me out of bed.
"Ugh, Just give me a sec." I placated him while rubbing the sleep out of my eyes.
"David! If you don't hurry up, our breakfast's going to get cold!"
"You little brat, at least let me get dressed" I said while reaching out to grab him.
Dodging my hand he stuck his tongue out at me, "Nah-uh, not today, you won't catch me!"
Raising an eyebrow I smirked, "Oh, really now?" Realizing his mistake, his eyes grew wider before turning around to run. Before he made it out the room, I grabbed him and threw him back on my bed.
"WAIT!" he screamed with his hand up, "I...I need to go...make breakfast!" Satisfied with his excuse he looked up at me with a smug look. I laughed at him while I held him down, "but didn't you just say that breakfast was getting cold?"
And with no mercy, I began to tickle him.
"AHAHAHAHAHAHA!" he laughed while trying to squirm away from my hands. "Nooo Mooore! hahahaha" Finally deciding that he'd had enough for a punishment, I hugged him and whispered, "I had that dream again..."
Regretting what I said as I felt him stiffen, I let him go while I began to get dressed.
"David..." he said quietly, and I felt a pair of small arms wrap around my waist. "don't worry about it, It must mean something since you dream the same thing over and over again."
Patting his hand, I removed his arms and pushed him towards the door. "Tell your mom that I'll be there in a sec"
Looking reluctant to leave he lingered by the door with worry on his face. Smiling at him, I shooed him away, "I'll be fine, don't wait up for me" Still hesitating, he finally nodded and left.
Sighing, I rubbed my face and I walked outside towards the well before drawing up a bucket of water and began scrubbing. After cleaning up, I went back inside before throwing on a clean shirt, and walked towards the kitchen.
Standing in front of the stove was an older female with graying hair tied up in a bun and an apron on. Pearson was slowly approaching the table, winking at me while trying to get his hands on one of the cooling muffins. Subconsciously smiling, I leaned against the door frame while I watched her hum as she worked. Just as Pearson was smiling and holding onto a muffing, she turned around to smack his hand and scolded him as the muffin dropped from his hand back onto the tray, "Pearson! you should know better! go sit down and wait for your brother!"
Finally catching sight of me, a smile brightened up her face as she approached me. "David! Good morning!" she called while hugging me. I leaned down to wrap my arms around her, returning the hug, and lay my head against her shoulder before taking a deep breathe. "Good Morning Mrs. McGinley" She smelled like home. Breaking away, she smacked my chest and scolded me lightly with a frown on her face, "David! what did I say about calling me Mrs. McGinley!"
Sheepish, I smiled at her and corrected myself, "I'm sorry, Good Morning Mother" Thinking for a second, she nodded once, "That will have to do for now, come and sit, Pearson here just can't wait to start!" chuckling she turned around to finish setting up the table.
I took my seat across from Pearson and before I could ask about the whereabouts of Mr. McGinley, Mrs. McGinley opened up her mouth and beat me to it. "Now dears, dig in! Mr. McGinley will be in shortly. He's just finishing getting the cart ready so that way you guys can leave directly after breakfast!"
With the go ahead, Pearson immediately went after the muffin he dropped earlier and began piling his plate up with as much food as he could reach. Rolling my eyes at the sight, I just couldn't help wonder how he could eat so much and still be so tiny and how in the world he was only 2 years younger than myself. Turning my attention to Mrs. McGinley, "Mrs...ahem, Mom" I couldn't help correct myself at the glare she shot me. "I'll be right back, I think I'm going to go help..." and before I could finish a large hand pushed me back down into my seat.
"No need boy, I've already finished" came the booming voice of Mr. McGinley.
