PROLOGUE - No Strings Attached
Mike Saller
"Dude, I said that I like her." I ran my fingers through my hair. I stared at my friend's teasing look. "I'm serious."
"Well, what did she say?" John's teasing look turned into a serious one. I sighed, not wanting to go in the details but what can I do? He's the one who's experienced.
"She said that the feeling's mutual." I muttered, looking down at my feet. I felt so happy that time but... "She also said that she promised some guy from her class that liked her from the moment he saw her and had been waiting since forever a chance and..." Frowning, I licked my lower lip, swallowing the big invisible lump in my throat.
"What?"
"It's complicated, John." I shook my head.
"God, you're gayer than I imagined." He rolled his eyes, slapping me on the back. "Just tell me what she said and I'll tell you what to do. Now, start from the top."
"Okay..." I muttered, not really wanting this. Me. Opening up. About a damn girl. Hell, I'm whipped.
Badly.
"So... she said that she had a crush on me since her freshman year..."
"Dang, that's long." His eyes widened at the fact. Yeah, I know. I'm a senior while she's a junior, now. She's loyal, I like it.
"...Then this guy came along." I gritted my teeth, "She said that he's trying, really trying, so she gave him a chance even though I'm still the one who owns her heart."
"Define 'really trying'." He used that Im-The-Love-DJ-Pour-Your-Heart-Out voice.
"She said that he makes her laugh--"
"Then make her laugh!"
"And he makes her feel really special..." I continued, rolling my eyes, predicting his next response. Then make her feel special.
"Then make her feel special!"
"I don't know what to tell her, help me, DJ Love." I snickered, my voice full of sarcasm.
"Well, this may sound cruel but tell her to drop that guy." John grumbled, "Then have your happily ever after, duh." I looked at him as if he had lost his mind.
"Come on, man. That's stupid."
"Mike, stake your claim. That's all I've got to say." He sent me a wry smile, shaking his head. "You know, I prefer you loveless. What did this girl do to my man?"
I smirked, "Too bad."
