It's a Wednesday night during the Summer of 1993, Astrid sits in her room staring into the blank ceiling. Sometimes she wonders why her mom
has been so upset lately, she refuses to ask questions. So much runs through the fifthteen's year old mind. She doesnt feel the need to ask anything because she can already tell whats going on.
" Astrid? "
" Yes ma' "
" Baby please pack your bags, we're leaving tomorrow "
Astrid doesnt say anything back, she runs to her room where she begins to cry unconditionally, once she makes it to her room she opens up a box. This is more than any box, this box is filled with letters and photos... From who you ask, her father, Aiden, yes. She opens the box and stares at the pictures of her father carresing her as a baby, She begins to cry even more. She can't hold it in anymore she runs to her mother, but to only see her mother chugging down multiple bottles of Smirnoff and smoking cigarettes. She is in shock, never has she seen her mother doing this..
" Ma'!! What's wrong ma, please talk to me! "
" Ba-ba-baby, p-p-please p-pack the the-
" Ma'!! I don't wanna see you like this!! "
Astrid grabs all the bottles off the floor and throws them away, she hugs her mother tight, her mother hugs back..
" Ma', please don't do this to yourself, please ma', I know he-
" I d-d-don't wanna hear shit about that f-f-fuckin' fool, hurry and pack them damn bags! "
Astrid backs away in fear her mother might do something, the hurt teenager sobs back to her room.
".... Damn, she would rather get fucked up than to motherfuckin' talk to me... That's fucked up man. "
Astrid puts her feelings aside and packs up...
It's July 15, 1993...
Today is the big day, Astrid is finally leaving Miami... Astrid has isolated herself from the children at school, so leaving Miami isn't affecting her in any way possible.
" Goodmorning baby, please eat before we go on the bus. "
Astrid wakes up but doesn't say anything back. She walks to the kitchen to eat.
" Baby, do you want some waffles and cherry? "
Astrid only shakes her head and passes the offer,
" Is it because when you eat them, you think about your fath-
" DON'T REMIND ME OF ANYTHING MA'! "
Astrid runs away from her mother, she arrives to her room, she throws herself to the floor, and begins to cry again. Her mother slowly opens the room door-
" Astrid, baby, i'm sorry for all of this, I wish you could understand what has been going on..."
She says while hugging Astrid close, both begin to cry..
" Ma'.... I can't believe it.... Why now ma', why now.."
" Because baby, good things fall apart so better things can come together. I know you're hurt mamas, promise me I know... Because when I was younger, the same thing happened to me too...."
Astrid stops crying, she pulls away from her mom, her eyes are open wide while she's looking at her mother cry,
" Astrid baby, I know I should've told you this before, but mommy was once in your shoes... When i was thirteen my father used to beat my mother, my father used to bring hookers home, and my mother... well, she, umm...-
" She what? "
Her mother starts to cry, more than Astrid has ever seen before..
" She... She stayed, but only for the family, so until the day my father died, that was an everyday thing... the arguing, the beatings, the hookers... "
Astrid begins to cry with her mother,
" Ma', if you know staying for the family wasnt a good decision, why would you do it aswell? Please tell me ma', I will not know if you don't speak... "
" Because as a little girl, I always was daddy's princess, I wanted you to feel the same, I wanted you to live in a happy home with a happy family.. I wanted you to live better than I did.. I love your father, but- "
Melissa could no longer continue talking, she began crying again, this time Astrid began to melt down..
It is 11:42 a.m, the ladies have finished crying and are done packing up.
" Baby, we need to go, but I wanted you to say something to someone before we leave..."
A couple minutes later, Aiden came to see Astrid.
" Momma, I'm-
" Get away from me, don't talk to me, go with the bitches you put before me and my ma'! "
" Astrid please let me tal-
" I SAID GET AWAY FROM ME AND GO WITH YOUR OTHER BITCH! "
Aiden doesn't say anything in return, he realizes he can't get a word out of any of them so he leaves the house....
" Astrid baby, our bus is here we need to go. "
Astrid and melissa both get the luggages to get on the bus...
As Astrid leaves the house she turns around and the flashbacks of the family that she thought was happy reappeared in her head.. She doesn't cry, she turns around and gets on the bus..
