Chapter One

"First day of school," I mutter to myself, the sound of my alarm clock screeching in the background, "yay."

Don't get me wrong, I love teaching children.  I just don't like their crazy parents or the weeks after, where you find a child's not so innocent personality.  Its nothing I haven't dealt with before though.

For the three years I've been teaching, and I think I've been handling things quite well. I take a slight glance at the alarm clock,  the bright green 5:45 standing out from the clocks dark appearance.  It was early, but I had to finish setting up. My classroom, in its current state, would have every parent and child begging for a new teacher. And the only other option was Mrs. Hillan,  a crazy old hag who shows you pictures of her cats in interesting costumes.

I chose a simple outfit - striped shirt, black pants cuffed at the bottom, a dark blue blazer, and my converse. They ask you to be more professional, but I really don’t give a damn; It’s my closet. As I walk into the kitchen, my mind starts wondering. Will the kids like me? What if I screw up? The possibilities are alway endless, one child always falls out, crying for their mother. Another will be awful, just devious and hell bent on making my life awful. There will be the shy one, the one who won’t say a word til the end of the year. The annoying one, the one who just won’t shut up. And the one girl who is obsessed with horses, like, unhealthily obsessed.

Suddenly, a loud vibration came from bed, a bright light signifying that I had recieve

a text message. I jogged over to my bedside, and picked up my Iphone, looking at my notifications.

One new text message from: Eleanor

A loud groan escaped my throat, and I slowly unlocked my phone, thinking about all the possible texts she could have sent me. Eleanor and I broke up 3 months ago, but she likes to keep in touch. Not that I have a problem with it or anything; It’s not like I’m jumping right on the train back to Relationship Ville.I feel my eyes roll into the back of my head once I see what she has sent.

Have a good first day ;)

Why the winky face, I will never know. I shake my head at her text, grab an orange from my fruitbowl, and head out to my car. As I walk out the door, I see my next door neighbor, Harry, trying to get rid of his latest lover.

“Hey Harold, who’s your friend?” The smirk on my face growing as the mystery girl reached out to touch him, only to be pushed away.

“Louis, don’t you have, like, a job, maybe?” He responded, shoving the girl off of him, “Maria, stop!”

The girl finally gave up her advances, and started walking away, swinging her hips.  As she got to the side of her car, she turned and faced Harry,“You’re gonna be sorry that you left me.”

Harry looked at me, with a confused expression, then turning to his one night stand, “We were never together!”

“And we never will be!” And with that, Maria slammed her car door, and drove off like a mad woman, leaving me in hysterics and Harry like a deer in headlights.

“Oh man,” I laughed out, “That was hilarious.”

If looks could kill, I wouldn’t just be dead, I would have been castrated, with my eyeballs gouged out, while Harry stabbed me with a rusty spoon.

“Aren’t you running late, Lewis?” Oh the face.

I was running late, come to think of it. I need to finish decorating my classroom, and the later I get there, the higher the chance of running into Ms. Swift. She was one of Harry’s flings, and has been asking me about him since the day they broke up. Which just happened to be last year.

“You’re right, see you later Harold.” He waved me off with the flip of the middle finger, and I got into my car, and drove to work, the thoughts of the new school year tormenting my brain.
