The school slut and her two croonies were at it again.
"Hey Peyton, you do know that weight loss pills exist right? You should, like, do yourself a favor and check them out." Laura Hills and her clones, Vanessa and Ashley, snickered. Ah, the Belford Barbies, or as the victims of the trio say when they weren't around: the Belford Bitches.
Laura, Vanessa and Ashley were the typical cheerleading, popular mean girls that are portrayed in the movies. The residents of Belford, California thought they were the epitomes of perfection. The three girls were carbon copies of each other. Due to their long beach blonde hair that reached the middle of their back, they were called the Belford Barbies.
Their features were delicate and their bodies were petite. They each had ice blue eyes that could burn a hole in your face. Forty dollar pink lipstick and expensive name brand attire were their trademarks. Confidence and charisma radiated off of them when they entered a room, making heads turn.
Too bad beauty was only skin deep.
Laura was the head of the trio, sharing her tiny brain with the other two nitwits. Vanessa and Ashley weren't girls of many words, having Laura do all the talking for them. Not only did Laura control what they said and who they could talk to, but she also told them what to wear and what to eat. I couldn't really blame Vanessa and Ashley for being so cold to me. I could only blame their gullibility.
But, I did blame Laura. I blamed her for every bad thing that has happened to me since freshman year. No matter what it was, Laura always had some part in my demise. Her connections and accessibility to daddy's money made it possible for my life to be over at the snap of a finger.
That she-devil had to be taken down. The only question was: who would do it?
I kept my face blank and head down as I pushed my way passed Laura. Surprisingly, she let me go this time without any additional comments. I headed to my last class of the day, P.E. and I dreaded every minute of it. Rigorous exercise wasn't my forte, which I guess led to the prominent love handles that protruded over my jeans.
After getting dressed, I placed the bag that held my whole life in my locker and quickly locked it. I ran to my class before roll call began.
My face was drenched with sweat by the time class was over. Running around the large gym for fifty minutes did not sit well with me. Having my gym teacher yell, "Come on, Ms. Daniels keep up!" didn't either. I freshened up and opened my gym locker to retrieve my things... only something didn't feel right. I examined my locker and, without finding a thing out of place, I wrote it off.
I shot out of Belford High School when the final bell rang. Freedom.
Seeing the blazing sun high in the sky made me smile, making it the fifth time I've ever smiled within such proximity of Belford High. Due to the fact that it was May of my junior year made this pretty unfortunate. As usual, my extraordinary mood was short-lived when I reached my car.
There, standing on top of the hood of my car next to her two cronies was Laura Hills. No matter how hard I tried, this girl was inescapable. But, what made my stomach clench and bile rise in my throat was the book that was opened in her hand.
My diary.
That diary was the missing item from the bag in my gym locker.
In the tiny book that was being held by the devil's spawn contained some of my deepest secrets.
My legs couldn't move fast enough as I ran towards the crowd, pushing and screaming profanities. Before I could make it to where she stood, we locked eyes. An evil smirk danced on her lips.
"Look what I found in your locker, Peyton." She dangled the book by her fingertips.
"How'd you get in my locker?" I demanded.
"Have you forgotten? My daddy donates loads of money to this school, giving me the amazing power to have anything I wanted, like a certain locker combination from my favorite secretary."
I said nothing. I couldn't. I knew how powerful she was. Her family was the richest in the area and her dad owned many businesses, including the one my mom worked in.
"Peyton Daniels, let's see what secrets you keep in this small book."
"...Laura, please don't," I cried, still making my way through the crowd.
"May fourteenth," she began in a dramatic voice. "I saw Brett Collins today! It's obvious why every girl, including me, has a major crush on him. I just want to squeeze those adorable cheeks of his. Anyways, I had another run in with Laura. What a bitch." She stopped reading and met my eyes. "Harsh words there, huh, Peyton,"
The crowd laughed because they thought everything Laura said was hilarious. But I thought it was far from funny. I was frozen due to shock. Snapping out of it, I ran and hopped on to the hood of my car. The book was snatched out of Laura's hand but it didn't matter. The damage was already done. Reading a mere five lines out of my diary not only left me beet red, but everyone simply pointed and laughed.
How humiliating.
My heart was doing jumping jacks in my chest as I stood in front of sixty percent of my junior class. But all I wanted to do was wipe that stupid smirk off of Laura's face.
I couldn't take the laughter and the stares any longer so I ran home with tears rolling down my face. I left my car and the joyful laughs in the Belford High parking lot.
That day, May twenty-first, marked the most excruciating day of my life.
This is a repost because I'm unsure if I should continue or not... :) Please leave a comment! <3
