Jessica fell once again, her face now covered in dirt as she pulled herself out of the mud and trudged on further, desperate to reach the place she once called home.

The wind blew ferociously and Jessica struggled to see ahead of her thanks to the heavy rain that beat down on her making her shiver. She clutched the locket tightly, the old lady had instructed her to go to her childhood home before opening the locket. The lady warned Jessica that if she disobeyed her the consequences would be terrible and Jessica didn't want to take the chance of having her eyes turn inside out or worse so she agreed.

Jessica could sense that she was close. It had been 11 years since she last set foot on these grounds. Her father had beaten her and her mother so viciously one day that her mother packed a bag and took Jessica to the city where they lived together until Jessica's mother died from heart failure. Now Jessica, on her 27th birthday is about to relive all the painful memories of her childhood.

She approached the house cautiously. Jessica did not know what had become of her father but she hoped he wasn't there as it had been years since she last saw him. Jessica slowly walked up the steps to the porch and placed her hand on the oak door that her father would slam shut every night when he would return home drunk and beat Jessica's mother, waking up Jessica in the process.

As Jessica pushed the door open she was thrown forward by a huge gust of wind and now lay face down on the floor inside the house. She stood up and pushed the heavy door closed. She looked around for any clue as the why she was here but all she saw was a faint glow of light coming from upstairs. She trembled as she made her way up the stairs. She was afraid that her father would be there and demand to know why she was here.

As she reached to top of the landing she saw the source of light, a small candle placed by the door to what she remembered as the spare bedroom, the one her mother would sneak into when her father was drunk and miserable. Jessica crept towards the door and took the locket from her pocket. She slowly opened the locket and was puzzled to find a picture of herself, aged 11 years old smiling next to her horse whom she loved dearly until his last breath. However it was the left side of the locket that broke her soul, in blood red letters were the words rest in peace. She dropped the locket and turned to exit the house but let out a piercing scream. There, at the top of the landing, 5 feet away from her, was her father. He held a large knife and stared at her, his eyes filled with anger and jealousy. Jessica took a step back, she knew it was over.
