Charlotte sat on the rusting old bench centered in the middle of the park humming to her self in a makeshift voice "we are farmers bum ba dumb bum bum"she continued this loop until she was interrupted by Tanner, her boyfriend. " Lovely voice" he sarcastically exclaimed as he sat tightly beside her . "shut up" she snapped giving him a stern look that soon melted into a grin and leaning over and softly kissing his cheek. Tanner smiled and put his hands on her cheeks looking into her eyes" guess what? " he innocently said, without letting her answer he swiftly said" its our six month anniversary "
"Really I'm surprised you remembered and I forgot"
"Yeah, after the last five I thought I'd get my act together"
"Oh, well that's sweet" she said grasping his hand and interlacing her fingers with his.
"I got you something too" he said shyly( is that a word idk)
He continued to pull out a velvet lined box and hold it out towards her. As she carefully grabbed it from him and lifted the top up. She gasped happily at the sight of a shining gold locket shaped like a heart, engraved with swirling details you'd think to see on something of the queens.
"I love it" Charlotte exasperated placing one thumb on either side of the heart smoothing it, lost in the mesmerizing details.
Interrupting Charlotte's trance Tanner explained"it opens too".
Charlotte pulled the heart in half and inside was a cliche picture of her and Tanner.
"Its amazing" she said with her heart melting.
"I'm so glad you like it" he replied.
With her hand still interlaced with his she rested her head on his shoulder as they spent their day at the park thinking and talking about thing they could only imagine, lives that were different and molded for them, worlds with mystery and danger, things they could only wish for.
As the sun began to set lighting the sky in an array of golden colours they began to leave looming about the now practically abandoned park to only see one other man in the distance the man was tall with brown hair buzzed down to his scalp, and he wore a suit and even more strangely he held a briefcase and paced around rather anxiously.
"Pretty casual attire for a day at the park"Charlotte implied sarcastically
As the couple began to leave a completely bald man with a scar running across his face walked towards the man with the briefcase. They began to converse with hushed tones as the man with the briefcase handed it to the bald man. He opened it and suddenly became very angry and started yelling though it was rushed and they couldn't not make out what he was saying.
" we should go" Tanner said anxiously pulling Charlotte behind him as they turned their backs they heard "Bang" they turned their heads to see the man who was formerly holding the briefcase clutching his stomach as blood spattered out of his dying mouth. "Thump" his body hit the ground with the slight essence of life still moving his body slightly until lifelessness approached him.
"Oh....fuck" Charlotte muttered.
The man then turned to look at them cold as ice stare locking at their eyes then raising his gun towards them.
"Run" was all Tanner could say, in an instant they bolted towards a thick patch of trees with the man not far behind them.
"Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit...were gonna die all the days to die, and it had to be today" Charlotte ranted to herself as Tanner practically dragged her through the woods. "Bang" came again yet this time it was coming at them, bullets hit the ground behind them flinging dirt onto their backs.
As they emerged from the woods with man not far behind them they ran towards civilisation they spotted a place to hide, a small enclosed space between two town homes. They ran towards what they were sure was safety they became breathless as the squeezed into the tight space wrapping their arms around one another.
"Are we safe" Charlotte questioned quietly.
Tanner then replied "he saw our faces"
