*Takes A Deep Breath* Come on
Josh up there
Josh POV
Hey, um hi there or is it how are you today? Whatever. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Joshua. Well, Joshua Richards. I'm sorry, I'm not so good at doing these things. I guess I should tell you a little bit more about me then huh? Well here it goes. I'm average looking, I don't drinks those nice cars that you may have read in other books (some of which aren't even in production to be honest). I don't come from a family with more money to make even Oprah Winfrey jealous. That's kinda impossible since the woman owns her own network, magazine and allat. You'd be surprised though. I'd like to think of myself as average to be honest. I'm not necessarily ugly nor am I the hottest thing on the planet so where does that leave me? Eh......
Um, did I miss anything? Oh at the moment, I'm 17 years old. I don't think most of you care about that but I just thought I should let you know anyway. Uh let's move on to what you guys really want to read about. I'm tired of talking about me, it's awkward honestly.
"Josh don't forget your book bag." my mom said as she walked out the door to the car. "I won't. Last time was an accident OK?" I laughed as I walked downstairs to the car. "You're gonna have a good day at school right champ?" my dad said rubbing my head. "Yea dad. You're gonna mess my waves up." I said moving his head. "What waves? You mean those little ripples in you head? I don't think the ocean would be jealous of those son. Now the solar system on the other hand, they might not like that so much." he said howling with laughter. I'm glad he found that funny. Now I'm starting to wonder if I made the right choice in waving my hair.
"That was really funny. I guess I'll have to tell the salt and pepper shakers that there's a new condiment in town." I laughed at him. "What? Nah. Your old man still has full color in his hair." he said rubbing his hair. "Tell that to that patch of white in the back of your head." I laughed as he ran to the nearest mirror to observe it. While he was doing that, I took the opportunity to go upstairs and get my book bag. You see, me and my parents always had a fun and engaging relationship. They were the reason why I loved waking up every morning. We lived in your normal two story house in a fairly quiet neighborhood.
"Josh come on son or you'll be late and then we'll be late because you're late." my mom yelled from downstairs. You see, I was the first drop off for them on their way to work. My dad would drop my mom off next before finally heading to work himself. We were all about 10 minutes from each other so you could see the domino effect me being late would have on them. I quickly grabbed my book bag as well as brush my hair once again before heading downstairs. "I'm ready. Let's go." I said as I hopped in the back seat . During our drive, I decided to spark some conversation. "I'm thinking a bout doing track this year." I said. "Really now? My baby is about to become one of the fastest men on earth. I'm so proud of you." My mom said.
"That's amazing to hear son. May I ask what sparked your interest?" My dad said looking at me through the mirror. "Honestly I really don't know. I love to run so I guess it was just a natural decision. It's weird that I can't even give you a definite answer." I said laughing at my self for literally being stumped at the question. Weird. "It's cool son. You're at the point where you're discovering what it is you may want out of life and we aren't mad at that. In fact, we can't help but to be even more excited about it. We know your future is a very bright one." pops said making me smile. See what I mean? These two are the reasons why I feel like I can do and be anything that I want to be.
"Thanks dad. I really appreciate it." I said as I looked out the window. i never noticed how beautiful the scenery was at this time of morning, it looks like something out of a movie. That's because I'm always sleep. Got to catch those extra Z's anyway that I can. "Well off you go champ. We'll see you when you later on." my dad said breaking me out of my thoughts. I didn't even notice that we were at my school that fast. "That was quick. I'll see you guys later." I said grabbing my things and heading out the car. "Josh wait." my mom called me as I turned back around. "Here. We want you to have this." she said handing me a cellphone. Nothing fancy, just a normal phone. "My first phone! Thanks mom!" I screamed hugging her. "Thank you too old man." I said giving my dad a hug as well.
"I know it's not necessarily the best phone at the moment but we have something else for you later on. Our numbers are already programmed in it so we'll call you when we're near OK?" my mom said as I nodded my head. I waved to them as they pulled off.
Are you sure you guys want to hear about my school life? I'll condense it for you.
I walked through the doors and went to look for the try out sheet for the track team. Once I found it, I wrote my name down and went to my first period. I didn't mention if I had any friends her did I? Let me apologize. I greeted Trey, Lira, and Troy and caught up on all of the things we did over the weekend before heading to my first period with them. We've been cool since kindergarten and I wouldn't trade these tree for the world. Obviously, they have other friends besides me but I don't mind. I on the other hand, are apprehensive about meeting new people because you never know what people's intentions are nowadays. The rest of the day was cool. We had a few test here and there but I aced those with ease.
"How did everyone manage to fail that test besides us is beyond me." Troy said as we walked out of the class. "Yeah it was literally a cake walk." I nodded my head in agreement. "Right. I'm happy with my 85." Lira said as we laughed. What's ironic about this is the fact that we literally managed to get the same score (no, we didn't cheat. We don't do that). "Well I got to go to track practice. I'll see you guys later." I said walking away. "Josh." Trey said stopping me. "Wassup?" I said as I turned around. "Tryouts isn't until tomorrow." he laughed. "You lying. Shut up." I said as everyone else pretty much agreed with him. "Guess I should've read the sign then. Ight well I can get me some rest then. I'm tired. I'll see you guys tomorrow." I said as I turned around. Like clockwork, my phone rang and I already knew who it was.
I walked outside and saw my parents parked right in front of the school. "I'm sorry for not answering, I just already knew it would be you guys so I just came out here." I said getting in the car. "It's OK. You didn't give your friends your number?" my mom asked me. "I kinda forgot about it to be honest." I said shrugging my shoulders. I honestly did. "Well, how was tryouts? Did you make the team?" my dad asked me. "Tryouts aren't until tomorrow so I guess we'll find out then. I should've read the paper before signing away." I said as we all laughed. The ride home was nice and filled with jokes as well as talks about work and school and such.
"Come on let's go. Your mom's cooking tonight so you know we can't miss that." my dad said excitedly. My mom really should be a chef, her food is amazing. I have a few recipes of hers written down for future reference. "Oh before I forget. Here you go son." my dad said handing me a box. I opened it and it was a touchscreen android phone (again nothing special but my first smartphone, so you know I was hype). "Awwww man! Thanks pops!" I said hugging him. "No thank you for continuing to make us proud and just being there when we need you son." my dad said as he hugged me back. "Now let's go before your mom kills us. You know she doesn't play." he said as we got out of the car.
"Oh wait dad, can you unlock the car, I forgot my book bag again." I said as he laughed. "Make sure you lock it before you come in." he said as he turned to the front door. I looked through the backseat before finally finding my book bag
*Boom!*
I felt pushed back into the car as the door clothes behind me. My ears were ringing loudly so I could barely hear a thing. I turned around, horrified at the sight. My house was in pieces and flames were everywhere.
Can we stop here? It hurts to talk about.
All I could think about at the time was where were my parents. Thus beginning my downward spiral. Are you sure your ready for this?
There we go. This book has been on my mind for a minute.
Thoughts?
Josh?
This one is one of my better ones watch.
