Colton
I could hear someone calling my name in the distance.
My eyes were closed and I couldn't remember where I was.
"Colton, it's your mother," the voice continued, but it didn't sound like my mother.
My eyes opened slowly to the dim fluorescent lights of that shed Henry had brought me to.
Henry, Riker, and 2 men I'd never seen before sat at a table talk softly.
Isa sat next to me and when she saw I was awake, called the others over.
"Morning kiddo," Riker laughed. "You went down right after you gave us your answer, about 5 minutes ago.
"Who are you?" I directed my question to the men I didn't know.
"Agent Anthony Hanna," the first man said. He was black, muscular, and bald.
The other one stood and walked away. He was tall with dark hair, but I didn't get a good look at his face before he walked out.
"Well ok then," I said. "Did I do something wrong?" I asked Isa.
"No Colton, that's our operations manager, he likes to be left unnamed," Isa said.
I nodded, to show I understood.
Riker and Anthony helped me to my feet.
"Come on," Riker said.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"Our operations center, welcome to the team," Anthony said.
"Do I have to wear those stupid glasses again?" I asked.
"Not this time," Henry said laughing.
"Thank God," I said.
I was still a little drowsy, so Riker and Anthony had to help keep me upright and help me walk.
The events of the past 2 days were starting to take a toll on me. I was tired and weak. I wasn't the strong young man I was yesterday.
The whole car ride to this secret location I listened to Henry and Anthony argue.
Why couldn't I ride with Isa and Riker? Are they even coming... damn I hope so. Why are Henry and Anthony partners if they fight so much? Maybe if the operations manager will talk to me I can ask...... shit I probably messed that up when I asked her name. Well ok guess I'm off to a terrible start.
"We're here," Henry said, stopping the car.
Anthony got out and came to help me out of the backseat, but I was fine now. Something had changed in me during the 10 minute car ride.
"Good to see you're on your feet all by yourself," Riker joked after he and Isa pulled up behind us and got out.
"Thanks," I laughed. "This is your operations center?"
"Just wait till you get inside," Riker said patting me on the back.
"Ok."
The door creaked open and we walked into a long hallway with doors on either side.
I looked around confused.
"Keep waking," Isa said smirking.
3 more steps and we were in a huge room.
There was so much to see. On one side 4 desks were separated from the rest by a gate like thing. Directly across from that was a staircase, going who knows where. Next to the staircase was an office, where the operations manager was sitting. Across from that were people working on computers, and fixing gadgets and such. Behind the staircase there was what looked like a wardrobe room full of clothes for all different people.
Isa and Riker sat down at the 2 desks unoccupied by Anthony and Henry.
I stood there awkwardly.
"Mr. Beckett," I heard from behind.
I turned to see the operations manager behind me.
"Yes sir," I said.
"A word in my office please," he said, turning and walking back to her desk.
I followed quickly.
"Do you know why you're here?" He asked.
"To help bring down my parents," I said.
"That's not the only reason," he said.
"Then why am I here?"
He opened his mouth to speak, but a woman ran up.
"Sir, in sorry to interrupt, but the assistant director is here and needs to speak with you at once," she said, flustered. She was short with blonde hair and green eyes.
"Tell her that I'm in the middle of a meeting and she'll have to wait," the operations manager said.
"Ok," the woman ran off.
"Sorry, where were we?" He asked me.
"You were telling me why I'm here," I said.
"You're here to-" he was interrupted when another woman came up.
"I told Ms. Wilson to tell you I am in the middle of a meeting," The operations manager said.
"And I told her I'm coming in anyway, i am the assistant director after all," the assistant director said.
"Olivia, please let me finish here, this young man is here to help us bring down a cell of ISIS fighters in the U.S.," the operations manager said.
"I don't care Frank," Olivia said. "This is a matter of national security."
"So is this," Frank said. They stared each other down for 30 second, before I excused myself.
"Colton get back here!" Frank called.
I was gone. I took off full sprint out the door.
I hid behind a wall that was crumbling.
I started to break down, but stopped myself.
Colton, you've saved lives, you've flown planes, you've fought through the pain, you don't run, you don't hide, you are strong, you are brave, you aren't a coward, and you sure as hell aren't afraid.
The pep talk I'd been giving myself for 8 years stopped working. Everything I knew when I left D.C. was gone. I wasn't the same person anymore. I wasn't the stern, cold, determined double agent I used to be. Now I am a 19 year old kid who's finally been introduced to the real world. From that point forward I knew I wasn't going through with anyone else's plans for me, I was going through with my plans for me. I stood and walked out from behind the crumbling wall, a new person. I looked toward the street, then looked toward the headquarters. I made my decision and started heading.......
