Their Begining

Chapter 1

*Kayden's POV*
(Before the concert)

Fishing my phone out of my pocket I look at the caller ID, and answer it without hesitation. "Aaron! Oh my gosh, I am so happy to hear from you!" I exclaim into the receiver, smoothing out my band dress. Aaron chuckles a little, "Why are you so excited every time I call?" He asks. "Oh, I don't know. It's totally not because you live three hours away" I say sarcastically.

"You have that concert tonight, right? The one with your solo" Aaron asks. I nod before realizing he can't see me and say "Yeah"

"I wish I could be there. Have someone record it for me, 'kay?"

"Of course. Mom and Dad promised to be at this one. I think they'll actually come this time, I heard them plan everything so they were free for my solo" I tell my brother. "Don't get your hopes up too high, you know how they are" Aaron warns me. "I know. I gotta go warm up. I love you, bro" I tell him. "Knock 'em dead, Nut, and stay away from boys!" He tells me before hanging up.

I know how they are, I just can't help it. Mom and Dad promised me they'd be here. They would break their promise again, right? I question myself before focusing on warming up.

(After the concert, at home)
"Honey, your father and I aren't coming to your... thing, we still have more work to do" My mother informs me, my grip tightens on my phone. "Yeah, I know you're not coming to it. You already missed it! Do you even remember what my 'thing' was? What instrument I play?" I ask her and wait for a response. When I didn't get one I say "That's what I thought. You know tonight was a really special concert for me. I had a solo and you promised me you would be there! I should have known you wouldn't show" I say with tears gathering in my eyes.

"You know that's not fair, Kayden. Your father and I have to work, your know that" She tells me. "No! You wanna know what's not fair? My parents always promising me that they'll be at my concerts, then never showing up! You never come to anything, unless it's for Melissa! To add onto that your barely ever home" I exclaim with my voice rising in pitch and volume.

"Kayden, don't talk to your mother like that" My father says with warning in his voice. "You don't get to tell me what to do. Not when you and Mom are never here! All you care about is the business! Aaron's always been the one there for me, listening to me, checking in on me even when you sent him away, and TAKING CARE OF ME!" I explode, "So I'll talk to you guys however the crap I want."

"If you and Aaron are so close then go live with him in Bright Port. Maybe that will teach you to respect what your mother and I are doing for you" My father says coolly. "Yeah, go right ahead. Send me to live with Aaron, I'm sure I'll be happier there anyway" I tell them honestly. "If you really feel that way then I'll set it up" My mom says as if we're discussing the weather. "I really feel that way" I assure my parents. "Okay, I'll inform Aaron of the plans. You'll finish out this week and then take a bus to Bright Port before hanging up.

It's impossible to tell if the tears gathering in my eyes are from sadness or anger. I hastily wipe my eyes, upset that this is affecting me like this when my parents are probably only upset about the trouble it would cause them if the new got out about another one of their children being a "delinquent" got out. I call my best friend Em to let her know what's happening.
