"Hey sweetie" a voice sounded from my right. I turned and raised my eyebrow. He was good looking, but most definitely not my type. He seemed to be hitting the six foot mark, blonde hair, overly muscular, and wearing jeans that seemed to be precariously close to exposing his arse. I was more into anybody but the type who hit on girls calling them sweetie. "Can I buy you a drink?" he asked a slight smile on his face. He was already waving over the bartender, certain I would accept his offer.
"I'm good, thanks" I replied in a monotone voice. He blinked and his slight smile settled into an obvious frown. He not used to being turned down and I had to stifle a smile at his reaction. He leaned closer towards me and leaned on the wall, flexing his muscles. I laughed quietly, did he really think that would make me more interested in him?
"Maybe you should reconsider, sweetie. It is a free drink after all" he persisted. He rose his eyebrows, daring me to reject him again.
"Maybe you should piss off sweetie, before I did you so hard the only way you'll be drinking is through a tube" I sneered, standing up and crossing my arms. I was nearly the same height as him with my high heels on. My muscles were slightly lesser in volume than his however.
He frowned and walked away muttering under his breath. I breathed out a short laugh and shot back the rest of my drink, walking over to my group of friends. They looked on with an amused look on their faces.

I blinked a couple of times to get used to the darkness. My vision was blurry and my contacts kept slipping off my pupils. We had just stepped out of the sweaty nightclub and I shivered in my light dress. I took a cardigan out of my handbag and shrugged it on. I turned to my friends. "I'll see you guys tomorrow" I called out and I waved quickly to them. My voice echoed off the tall walls that surrounded us.
"Sure, see you then!" Vicki said, tossing her wavy hair behind her and smiling at me. She intertwined her fingers with her boyfriend's, Nick. I watched their retreating figures and let out a sigh. I turned on my heel and walked back to my lousy apartment. I wrapped my arms around myself and rubbed them up and down, in an attempt to generate some heat. I checked my phone, it was nearing 3 am. Tiny hairs stood up at the back of my neck at the temperature. The most thing I hated about going out was the dreaded walk home. I didn't have money for a taxi and none of my friends brought cars with them on a night out. It was a short walk to my apartment but it was still a hindrance nevertheless.
The pavement was cracked in places and I stumbled a little in my high heels. When drunk and in a nightclub it felt completely normal to be so scantily dressed. But the cold air was sobering me up and I felt ridiculous going around in my short dress and high heels.
I strode down a street to the right, only two more minutes and I would be home. A man in a black hoodie was walking in my direction and I dipped my head down low, not wanting to attract his attention. The place where I lived was quiet but I was still a naturally paranoid person. As he brushed past his hand went out in front of me, stopping me in my tracks. Without my consent a shriek omitted from my mouth.
The man looked up at me and then gestured to the footpath in front of me. "The crack" he put simply. I looked downward and nearly slapped my forehead at my stupidity. If he hadn't stopped me I would have stepped into a seriously large crack in the path. God only knows what injury would have resulted from that stupid move.
"Thanks so much" I said to him, giving him a sincere smile. He nodded and continued on, shoving his hands inside his pockets. I walked a little faster, wishing I was already home. I stumbled and tripped over things, not really paying any heed where I was going. I steadied myself and started making my way back home.
