Chapter Eleven: Just Go For It
Song: Don't Leave - Snakehips ft. MØ
Leon's POV
"So you finally decided to break it off with Tisha, huh?" Jay asks as we ran our last lap around the track.
We're both breathing rapidly because we just ran about 40 laps. Coach is really getting on our asses since we have finals coming up in a couple of months. If we win...we will have finally beat the Ridgeway Cougars and our school could get recognition for it. Their school may get more funds than us, but we have more team spirit.
I laughed at Jay as he poured water onto his face, into his mouth, and inside his pants. He looked over at me breathing heavily and waiting for a response.
"Yeah. I finally did." I responded to his question as I took a seat on the bleachers.
"Welp so much for that job you wanted. Tisha's probably going to tell her mom not to hire you now."
I just shrugged my shoulders and rolled my eyes. I don't care about that job. If they really wanted me to work there they would've called me back by now. There's probably other places hiring somewhere else. Hopefully...
"Fuck it. I'll find something better." I stated with confidence, but something told me it was going to be harder to find a job and help my mom out.
"Don't worry bro you'll find a job. Anyway, I can't believe you finally grew some balls and broke up with her!" Jay shouts exhilarated. "What influenced the sudden decision?" He asked with a smirk playing on his lips.
Smart ass. He already knows the answer to that.
I smacked him in the back of his head and took a gulp of water from my water bottle.
"What! I'm just glad you finally came back to your senses."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I ask him.
"Well, for the past two weeks you've been acting all moody and shit. At first I didn't understand why but then I put two and two together. To be honest, I never understood why you were letting this girl, Tisha, boss you around. The old Leon I knew three years ago would've never let some girl dictate his every move."
"Well, well, well, look at this. You, Jayce Johnson, are speaking like a wise man." I put my hand on his shoulder in a fatherly manner. "Who knew this day would ever come."
"Shut up." He chuckles. "Seriously, I'm glad you're not with her anymore. It's time to focus on winning finals, so we can get out of here as champions going to UCLA next year."
I haven't had time to really think about college. I've been so focused on helping my mom out because my pathetic excuse of a father's not going to do it. If I ever see him again I'm knocking the shit out of him.
"Look who it is..." Jay mumbles looking behind me.
I turn around and see Marissa, Reyna, and Tiffany getting into Marissa's BMW. I noticed she had been taking the bus for the past week or getting picked by her little sister I presume. I guess her car is finally out of the shop..
What are still doing sitting over here Leon?
"Go get her." Jay states, finishing my thoughts for me.
I jumped off the bleachers and started running in the direction of the school's parking lot.
I ran as fast as my feet would take me. My jersey was drenched with sweat and felt like it was weighing me down, so I quickly pulled it over my head and threw it on the ground.
