I just stared at him for a moment.
He stared back.
He was the first one to crack a smile, and I covered mine as much as I could.I'm not sure why I smiled, it's just a thing, you know? Like when you're in those awkward years of your life and you smile when you're uncomfortable? Yeah That was now.
I looked down and he chuckled slightly. He leaned back in his big squeaky leather chair and grunted when he got comfortable.
"Your mother has told me a little bit about your current situation." he started, waiting for me to look up at him for approval to continue or something."But I don't quite think that what she told me, was the whole truth," He paused and looked at me for a few seconds before continuing. " it was just her perspective."
I looked at him with disinterest
He shrugged and I looked back over at his wall of trinkets without saying a word. I started to count them.
I wonder where he got such a weird looking hourglass? I thought to myself as my eyes drifted along the over packed shelves.
"I understand how it's frustrating to be ..."
My eyes followed the line of little tiki heads he had acting as kind of a makeshift crown molding
"..someone your age, dealing with such contrasting parents.."
One, two, three, four, five..
"..I'm not referring to the incident which lead you to seek my help, "
I turned to him and frowned.
"I didn't want to come here, my mother was the one who insisted, six"
I kept counting and looked away again.
"Well, that's what I mean. I knew that you wouldn't agree with your mother's side of the story, so that's why I'd like to hear it from you." He said softly in a mildly condescending but soothing voice.
I felt a little bit uneasy opening up to a stranger, so I didn't talk for the rest of the hour.
