Nika’s POV
I slowed to a stop when I had almost reached the food court, my hand clutching my chest as I took deep breaths and headed outside. I hate running, I should do it more often but I hate it. I sifted through my bag for my wallet, digging it out and counting how much I could spend for lunch today. I wandered over to the small food stall just outside the building and spotted a Tuna, Mayo and Salad wrap and smiled. I told the cashier was drink I would like to go with it and then handed him the money. He was a little taller than me, his hair a dyed blonde with dark brown roots and deep, piercing blue eyes. He smiled at me while handing over my lunch as I read his nametag.
“Thanks Niall.” I grinned at him. He chuckled softly before I headed towards my usual spot beneath an old tree where I tend to spend a lot of my time.
I knew I wasn’t far when I heard loud laughter and girlish squeals of joy. Suddenly my favourite tree came into view and my two favourite people sitting beneath it. Celeste caught sight of me and her face immediately lit up, her hand plying into the air as she waved enthusiastically at me.
“Nika, you’ll never guess who Saskia hooked up with the other night!” She giggled lightly tapping the girl in front of her on the shoulder. I placed my bag on the ground and sat down beside it, my cautious and curious gaze flickering between my two best friends.
“It’s not as bad as Little Miss Traditional Asian here makes it sound; she joined a martial arts school over the weekend ya know.” Saskia rolled her blue-gray eyes gesturing to Celeste who had crossed her arms over her chest in defence.
“Did you?” I taunted and she rolled her eyes at me.
“How many times do you have to call me Asian Kia? It’s like you need to keep reminding yourself or something.” She backfired. I chuckled listening to their small argument about whose weekend was likely to be the most interesting while unwrapping my lunch.
“Just imagine though, Celeste McBride, National Martials Arts Champion...In the Asian division.” Saskia held her hands high in air as if she were shaping a big neon sign, a wide grin on her lips. Celeste groaned and then a smile spread across her face.
“Yeah, Celeste McBride and her personal sex consultant Saskia Parrish-Brewer; I can totally see you being famous because of me babe.” Saskia gasped in mock insult, her hand covering her mouth while she laughed.
“So, who did Kia actually hook up with anyway?” I asked them both while chewing on my first bite of food. They gave each other a look, both girls raising an eyebrow at one another as if to say which one of us should tell her.
“Well,” Celeste started, “He’s in his fourth year, taking a Bachelor of Music course and, wait for it, he asked her on a date.” She explained. My eyebrows knitted together in confusion.
“Is asking someone on a date your definition of hooking up or is there more to this story?” I asked.
“Well, from what I’ve told you since you got here, you can probably imagine they weren’t eating food or watching a movie while on this ‘date’.” She stated triumphantly, flicking her straight black hair over her shoulder. Saskia sighed from beside me and I glanced at her, my mouth falling open in realisation and shock. I looked between them both, Celeste sticking her tongue out playfully and Saskia had her head resting in her hands.
“Is she being serious? Did you actually have sec with some guy you just met?” I gawked. Saskia sat up straighter, her gaze landing on me, a grin tugging at the corners of her lips.
“Yes and No, he is a friend of the family but I met him at an open house party on Friday Night. He was sweet and charming and I couldn’t help myself, he was so devastatingly handsome, just like David Beckham actually.” She explained. I couldn’t believe my ears, never had I ever thought Saskia would randomly hook up with a stranger, attractive or not, she constantly spoke about love and meaningful relationships; so much for that. I shook my head in disbelief and laughed at the embarrassment on her face before they both began giggling with me.
