I had been walking through the city of Melbourne, across federation square towards Flinders street station. Caramel Milkshake in one hand phone in the other. The sun beating down on me and wind whipping my hair around my face, which was incredibly annoying! It had been a very trying day, I had been rushing around trying to find the right place for a job interview for an internship at the Eureka
Tower, you would have thought it had been at the Tower itself but no! It had to be some far flung office on the other side of town. I had been stewing over this unfairness when music started blaring from unidentifiable speakers. It was a song I'd never heard before but it was awesome! Dance music you could dance any dance to, Or sing any song to. Then out of no where people of all different origins, genders and costume design came pouring out of doors and cafes, a few stumbled from the toilets, fifty people in all, dressed in bright colours and crazy clothes, it looked like one of them was wearing a pyramid, one girl looked like an orange. They then started dancing to the music! It was mesmerising, all of them moving differently but together as well in a blur of hypnotising colour. At this point every body in the square had stopped to stare, I saw some one spill coffee down there front because he hadn't been paying attention to what he was doing. When I thought it couldn't get better they started throwing each other into the air making abstract and colourful shapes in the sky, and the people being thrown were in turn throwing coloured powder into the sky making seas of brightness above them until the dancers and powders resembled a crazily colourful moving tower. Then the music slowed down and all the dancers fell to the earth in a mushroom cloud of dust, they started moving much slower and more deliberately, in perfect sink with one another, how plus fifty people managed to stay in time with each other is beyond me but they did it. The dancers were now moving in a sleepy kind of way like when you just get out of bed only difference was these people were graceful, moving around as if gliding across the beige cobbles of Federation Square. At this point the sun had just started to set giving the powders that covered the dancers a silvery quality making them look like colourful ghosts! The music climaxed and got louder, faster and a lot more intense, the dancers sped up to match the music until everything they did was a vortex of colour and sound until both sound and people stopped abruptly leaving the entire area quite except for the distant rattle of trains leaving flinders street station. They then left in the manor they had come and it took several minutes for anyone in the square to get over the shock and exhilaration they had felt, at least I'd assume that because that's what I did. The only sign they had been there was the coloured powder left on the cobbles of federation square!
