OK this is my first story in Wattpad and I'm still getting into the hang of things so please bear with me. I'm trying to improve my writing so plz leave comments on how I can do so. And sorry the first few chapters are a bit on the slow side, just stick with me, it gets better I promise. Here's the story:

My chest was hurting. It was getting more difficult to breath but I had to keep going, but where was I heading? Why was I running?

I couldn’t remember. All I knew I had to do was keep running, like my life depended on it. However, that was easier said than done, as my body was screaming at me to stop. To let the darkness take over, but I couldn’t. I had to keep running.

My breath was coming out in short puffs now. My bare feet were sore and bleeding like I had been running on broken glass. Well, the forest I was in was definitely not the ideal place to be running around in the dark, bare foot and alone.

The branches pulled my hair and clothes as I try to push past them. They seem to be trying to grab me and pull me back to my doom but they were too weak to hold me down for long. They left angry, open cuts where they got hold of my skin and scratched at me. It was like the trees were alive, their branches hands... and they were out to get me.

Then again, the trees weren’t the real threat here. That was behind me. That was what I was trying to get away from, and that was catching up to me.

I could hear howling and barking, piercing the silent night. The moon was my only source of light and my only source of company. Civilisation was miles away and out here no one would be able to hear me scream. I had to keep running...to civilisation.

The barking and howling was getting closer. I could hear the sound of heavy footsteps racing towards me. They were close and I could sense it. This was it... I was going to die.

With that realisation I quickened my pace - which was odd as I didn’t even know I had anything else left in me.

My breathing got heavier and heavier. I kept on running even with the knowledge that it was over. I couldn’t out run then. I started to cry... which made running a lot harder as I couldn’t see where I was going.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a hand grabbed me by the waist from the behind pulling me to a hard chest. I let out a deafening scream, which caused the birds from the nearby trees to flee rapidly upward, way here, to safety.

Nonetheless, it was no use. No one could hear me. It was all over.

On the other hand I kept on screaming...screaming myself awake.

I laid there on my bed, panting and trying to catch my breath. Trying to make sense of what just happened.

“It was only a dream” I whispered to myself in the dark of night, in an attempt to comfort myself.

I brushed loss strands of hair away from my face and wiped of some of the sweat that had emerged, off my face. This was just like every other night; I dreamt the same thing every night and woke up panting and out of breath. It’s been this was for as long as I could remember.

“Nica! You’re going to be late again!” I heard my mum call from down stairs. “Dominica Nikita Davids get down her now!” she exclaimed using my full name meaning she was seriously angry.

I moaned internally and rolled onto my side. My eyes were levelled with the bedside alarm clock, which showed nice and clearly that it was 8 am.

Crap!  I was going to be late. I thought as I ran to the bathroom with only 30 min till school start.

“Mum where’s my uniform!” I cried as I blindly searched my chaotic room. I was frustrated and annoyed; I was going to get detention again and it was a Friday as well.
