Celina rested her arms in the flowing water, from the creak. The black interchanging markings, that ran up and down her arms, burned her. The pebbles behind her moved, but she didn’t stir.
“I never wanted this.” She continued to look down at her arm. The markings still glowed a red rim around the black. “I don’t even know what I’m supposed to do.” She held back tears as the burning sensation crept to her neck and chest.
“It wasn’t up to you.” The voice sounded sympathetic. “You were the only human who could handle the transformation.” The voice came closer. Celina felt a hand on her shoulder. “Let me see.” The hand pulled her until she turned around.
She faced a sandy, haired boy. He had tall cheekbones and green eyes that sparkled in the moon light. The black t-shirt revealed the same marking’s as Celina. He had somber look as he examined Celina’s arms..
“It hurts.” Celina whimpered from his grip.
The boy forced a smile. “Yes but there coming in quiet nicely.” He turned, still holding one of her arms. “We should get to the motel down the street. You should get some rest.”
Celina hesitated. She still had no clue who he was.
“Wait. I don’t know who you are.” She dug her heels into the pebbles, even though it would be no use.
He turned his head to face her but she cut him off before he could speak. “I mean, I saw you there when they changed me, but I still don’t know who you are.” She pulled her arm out of his grip as he loosened it.
He smiled and laughed. “ My name’s Lucas, but most people call me Luke . I was assigned to help you learn how to use your powers correctly.” He held out his hand. “Now that we know each other, can we go.” Celina looked at his hand, then back at him. He made it hard to refuse. She took his hand and his smile widened. The space between there hands began glowing blue. The brighter it got the more it burned. Celina tried to take her hand away but Luke held her tight. When he let go she almost fell back but he caught her. Celina looked down at her hand. A black mark of a swirl had formed. She looked up at Luke. He looked satisfied.
“What did you do to me.” Celina stared at him, slitting her eye’s. Luke held up his hand. There was a swirl on it like Celina’s.
“It’s a guarding spell. If your ever in trouble and I’m not there, I’ll feel it.” He put his hand down at his side. Celina rolled her eyes and crossed her arm‘s.
“Then why didn’t you tell me you were going to do that?” Celina asked.
“I thought you wouldn‘t let me.” Luke shrugged. He held out his hand again, but Celina rejected it and brushed past him. She headed up a small, rocky path but stopped after Luke cleared his throat.
“Celina.” Luke mocked. Celina turned, arms still crossed. “The motel’s that way.” He pointed his finger in the opposite direction. Celina felt slightly embarrassed. She ignored Luke’s laugh and walked past him again, leaving him to fallow.
The motel wasn’t that far away. They were silent, with occasional glance’s at each other. When they arrived, without looking at her, Luke started off to the rows of rooms. He unlocked one of the doors and gestured for Celina to go first. There was a table with two chairs tucked underneath it to the right of the door. It looked cozy, easy to fall asleep in. Except…….
“There’s only one bed.” Celina pointed her finger to the single bed in the middle of the room. She looked at Luke, who was smiling and raising one eyebrow. Celina showed no expression and walked into the room. She retrieved a pillow from the bed.
