"Miss Aylers! Have you really found a cure for Ethropheris?!" A reporter asks as he shoves the microphone in my face.
"I-I, yes, I have," I struggle to say confidently because I'm not good with large crowds, especially when their attention is set on me.
"And how exactly do these 'White Specks' heal Ethropheris, can you also tell us a bit about this 'Liquid X2O'?" He asks again with an urgent looked smothered on this face as I take the microphone and clear my throats before beginning.
"These White Specks, when the right serum is injected to them, which we believe is X2O, it can heal whatever is wrong with the human body, surprisingly, we found out all humans have these White Specks, but they have no use if you aren't sick, these white cell-like things can transport this medicine into the right portion of the body, and Liquid X2O is the serum we have created with what we think is all the right ingredients, we believe the White Specks can transport this medicine to the correct area of the human body." I splurt out as my lungs beg for a breathe and I pant, handing the mic to the reporter as every word I just explained flashed through my mind.
A short young lady pushes her way through the crowd to meet up with me, she has the most glee-full smile on her face, "Hello, I'm Kaylee Richards, your currently treating my husband with Ethropheris! Have you used the serum on him yet? Is he okay? Will he survive?" She asks in hurry with begging Hazel eyes.
"Yes, I am, treating your husband, we have not used the serum yet, and we will not until we have some idea of the results when used, he is currently okay, the doctors are giving him pain killers and Advil for now, and we can never be sure wether a patient will live or not." I reply, suddenly feeling a pang of sympathy for the scared lady, "But he is currently not in pain, his vitals are steady, and he's okay for now." I say, trying to comfort the lady, who's expression has at least softened a bit.
"Thank you!" She says as she gets shoved away into the crowd like everyone else.
"ATTENTION, that will be all, go back home, Miss Aylers, come with me." A tall man with sleek gelled hair and a suit announced, clearing the area and smiling back at me once everyone has walked off, the army of restless people clicking off.
"Thanks." I sigh.
"No need, I needed you for something anyway, follow me." He nods and takes my hand, leading me back inside, as we entered a room, he sat down and poured coffee in a mug, "Want some?" He asks, and I nod politely as he grabs another mug, filling it up, "Take a seat Doctor Aylers." He offers and I sit down.
"Caitlyn, call me Caitlyn." I insist, sipping the dark latte, "What did you call me here for?" I ask, raising one blonde eyebrow.
"About your 'cure', you told the woman we needed to test the serum first, correct?" He asked, a stern and serious expression laid on his face, his brown eyes showing just as well.
"Yes, sir." I replied.
"If we need to test it, when will the testing be? And if it doesn't work?" He asks.
"It'll be tomorrow, twelve o'clock, and if it does not work, then we will add certain items for a backup, and re-test it until it's confirmed." I explain easily, it shouldn't be that hard to make a new medicine.
"Your patients are dying Caitlyn! They don't have long!" He muttered sternly, firmly setting his mug down on the table.
"It won't take long! They are not dying, I have them under health watch, their vitals are fine and their blood is not, that's the problem! And I am fixing it as soon as I can!" I narrow my eyes to slits in surprise at how stern his voice got so fast, "They are doing steady, They are not dying soon."
"You realize, if this fails or they die, it's not on you, your fortunate for that, it causes problems on me Doctor Aylers." He mumbles, "If they die, it's a bad reflection on this hospital, people are in pain and counting out the days they have left until they die, hurry with the serum already, and maybe do more advanced studying on White Specks, because you and the hospital and I are holding lives in our hands!" He seems stressed as he runs his hands through his hair in frustration, I wouldn't have followed him if he just took me in his office to yell at me and rush me.
"Sir, I'm sorry, but this takes time! It doesn't happen everyday where someone finds a cure to a terrible disease, be grateful for goodness sake!" I say, my voice high, "Well, if that's all you have to say, I'll be leaving." I shove my coffee aside and look back to see him running his hands over his face as I slam the door shut behind me.
I look outside to see people are still gone, I decided to go check up on one of my patients, her name is Maddie Olson, twelve year old who caught the disease, mainly the reason I found a cure so soon, I can't have such a small child dying.
Maddie wheezes as I enter the room, her face as pale as ever, "Hey sweetie, I'm gonna check up on your vitals, okay?" I say softly, slipping on gloves and a mask, connecting her IV to a machine, hooking it on, her vitals and health lines appear on the black screen, it's a green line and it's making little triangles when it bounces up, I unhook the IV and grab a bottle, pouring two clear red beds into my hands, "Okay Maddie, I'm gonna need you to swallow these pills," I say softly, filling a cup of water and dropping the pills in her mouth as the twelve year old weakly opens her jaws, I pour some water in her mouth as she swallows the pills delicately.
I slowly exit the room and shut the door as the young patient falls asleep, I sigh and check her name off my daily check-up clipboard.
Suddenly, a man walks up to me, a doctor, with a worried look on his face, "Um, Miss Aylers, Maudie Olson's parents are demanding you." He stutters nervously, pointing to the lobby/waiting room, I give him a small nod and prepare to be highly annoyed as I push open the heavy white door.
"I want to see my daughter, now!" I walk into the lobby to see a lady that matched Maddie's features yelling at the front desk lady.
"Ma'am?" I clear my throat and stare at the furious lady.
"Are you Doctor Aylers?" She asks with a rage look on her face, "Show me my daughter!!" She demands, crossing her arms.
"I'm sorry Mrs Olson, but you cannot see her right now." I reply, setting my clipboard down on a small wooden table beside a fluffy red chair.
"Why?!" She snaps.
"The disease is contagious, you cannot enter the room." I sigh as the mother tears up, a tear slipping from her piercing green orbs that matched her daughters accurately.
"At least tell me how my daughter is doing..." she sighs and grabs a handkerchief from her jean pocket, wiping her face gently, tear streaks still marking her cheeks.
"Well, her vitals are average, I checked them a few seconds ago, I made her swallow pain killers, and she is currently getting her well-needed rest." I explain, putting a hand on her shoulder, trying to comfort the poor young lady.
"My girl is okay?" She asks hopefully.
"Yes, she's doing amazing, she's so strong for a twelve year old fighting a disease." I assure, cracking a smile as I grabbed my clipboard, "I'm sorry, but I must be going." I say.
"O-Okay..." she sighs and grabs her purse, exiting through the automatic doors at the hospital, still wiping salty tears away.
