/:/ So, I decided to change up the other story a bit ^^ This one takes place with the 10th Doctor, just to clear that up. I hope it's a bit better this time. The next chapter should be coming soon! Please rate and let me know what you think! /:/
He strolled down the cold, misty streets of London—so vacant without Rose. It had been almost a month since he'd lost her, and everything inside him just seemed so lost. Once again he was left alone. He should have been more guarded, he should have expected it—then again, he should have done a lot of things in his lifetime. No matter how much he wanted to, he could not change the past; he could not interfere. It was just how it was supposed to be, how it always will be—he tried so desperately to convince himself. He tried to push the loneliness out of his mind, he tried to grab hold of his emotions, like he always could; but this time it was different, and he wasn't sure why.
That wasn't true. He knew exactly why, he just didn't want to admit it: It was the first time he'd truly opened his heart to anyone else besides the love of his life that he'd lost so long ago. Rose was the first one to see inside of him, since then; he trusted her...His first mistake.
He sighed and found a small bench, and took a seat. He stared down at the concrete, splattered with blotches of rain puddles that hadn't dried yet. He concentrated all of his effort in trying to push the past out of his mind. It was no use crying over it now: what had happened, happened, and that was that.
He refrained from any 'if, ands, ors, buts' and the like, no matter how much he wanted to say anything.
His hearts shuddered as he suddenly felt the hairs on the back of his hand stand straight up. An overwhelming sense overcame him, it penetrated his very soul, it felt like. He quickly looked around for anything out of the ordinary. Possibly even Rose...?
He rejected the idea, but continued to stand up, and follow the sense. It was definitely other-worldly, not from Earth, and it was strong, yet calm and peaceful. He frantically looked to and fro, searching for something, anything.
He continued following it, and it lead him straight to a playground, where a woman was tending to some children. In that moment he felt his soul break within him. What a cruel joke. The sight of children and memories of his own, suddenly plagued him—spiraling him down further into his depressive state.
He shook the persistent feeling off, and turned his back, not letting his curiosity gain control over him this time. The wind caught his coat tails as he began to walk off, back to the TARDIS.
Suddenly, every muscle in his body jumped as he felt a hand on his shoulder. He whirled around to see a woman standing in front of him. Definitely not human, though she looked human.
“You felt it, too?” she asked, shyly.
He bit his lip in wondering. “I did...Was that you?” he asked, feeling no other sense of alien presence.
She nodded. “I sensed your presence as well...” she stared at him in pure awe. “You're...you're a Time Lord...” she breathed, reaching out her hand to touch him. She caught herself, and quickly drew back her hand. “I'm sorry...” she put her head down.
He couldn't help it anymore—curiosity killed the last Time Lord. “What are you, and why are you on Earth?” he pressed.
Her gaze remained at the ground. “My name is Serenity, I am a shape-shifter. I mean no harm to this planet...I was just seeking some peace from my own.” She paused, and returned her gaze to the Doctor. “I'm sure you can understand that...”
He said nothing, but nodded. “What planet are you from?”
“Nazatik. Our planet is riddled with wars, I came here to escape from it all.”
He nodded again. “I'm sure you miss seeing the stars and galaxies, don't you? Nazatik has wonderful views of their galaxy. It's unfortunate that humans don't have the same. They just keep building, and building, and building.” He looked up at the darkened sky, shrouded in deep rain clouds. “Soon, they won't be able to see anything...”
She nodded. “I do miss it. It was quite beautiful...” she looked up at the sky as well, feeling tiny bits of the sky's tears fall onto her face. “Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever see it again...”
“I know the feeling,” he muttered. He looked back at Serenity who was still gazing at the sky. “What do you think about joining me?” he asked. He knew it probably wasn't the best idea, being that he was still trying to heal over Rose, but there was just something about her. Besides, she seemed clever, she seemed like she knew the stars, it would be nice to have someone to travel with who seemed relatively clever—though, never as clever as himself.
She ripped her gaze from the clouds to the man standing next to her. “What?”
“Would you like to join me in my travels?” he repeated, with the tiniest hint of sarcasm.
She felt a grin crawl up the corners of her mouth. With a small laugh, she nodded. “I would.”
He felt a smile start its way up his face as well, and he held out his hand. “C'mon, there are a lot of things in this universe that need a doctor. We mustn't be late.” He smiled, leading her back to the TARDIS.
