A diver named Abzu swam in the deep. Her whole face and slender, elegant body was pure black except for her helmet, shoulder armor, knee armor, and a small triangle on her back which were all yellow. Her eyes stood out the most on her face besides her pointy yellow helm, she scanned the seaweed and sand below as she kicked with her long flippers.
I do wish that there could be more... something new would be nice, she thought as a few clown fish that glittered orange whipped by her. Abzu then thought of an idea, what if she were to explore father out away from the temples. No one couldn't tell her what she can and couldn't do.... besides the fact there really wasn't anybody else besides he fish and aquatic mammals.
I'll do it, she then pumped her fins and swam briskly beyond the reefs and shallow waters. Hours passed. The ocean was becoming less and less rocky, the sands below were large dunes rather than coral homes and there was also less fish; she also noticed the ocean was empty. Very, very empty beyond the temple. However, she decided to keep going. It was silent, and a bit lifeless. The water reflected around her as she gracefully continued through.
Perhaps, maybe there is nothing beyond the temple? She asked herself. Then something black zipped above the water. Although she only saw it in the corner of her vision for a split second, but she saw it. Looking up at the surface she narrowed her eyes to see if it would zip by again.
Now, what was that? With a few powerful kicks she breached the water and stared around at he sky. Fluffy white blobs slowly crawled along the even more blue empty that always made her curious. What was this blue beyond? What are those floating white things in it? Is it as big as the ocean? She always wondered this every time she came to the surface, then a dot in the sky moving quickly grasped her attention.
It was circling something just a little beyond the glistening horizon, then with a graceful swoop and went down. Abzu blinked a few times then quickly went towards the direction where the flying dot went to. It took hours to reach wherever 'it' went, for the dot landed on a small island. Abzu stuck her head out of the water, the sun high and beaming hot. A small breeze settled in and whispered its ancient words.
Abzu retracted her fins and wobbled up the shore of the small island. The sand squished under feet warm and wet, the land mass wasn't impressive but it had a quite a bit trees and boulders on it covered in seaside vegetation. Abzu walked up onto the grass which felt funny below her feet. She gazed up at the large leafed trees that had weird fuzzy, brown objects on them. Abzu walked along distracted. THWACK, she fell back after smacking into a tree. She shook her head then heard, laughing? Giggling?
Abzu glanced around with wide eyes. Then stared down some shrubs, something was watching her and giggled at her. Abzu got up and sent out a call to interact with it. The two points on her helmet lit up and set out a pulsing tweep, tweep sound.
Maybe it was just my head- Then one of the shrubs in front of her rustled loudly as someone rose out of it and stepped out of it cautiously. The person across from her was a little shorter, wearing some sort of dark blue cloth that covered most of her torso and half of her legs lined in gold fabric. She also had a long, white tuff at the top of her head that fell over her shoulders like a jellyfish's tentacles but softer looking. What was even weirder about this being, was her face, her nose was stuck out and small; and had lips like a pucker fish but thinner and not so goofy. Her eyes were large like her own but had an outer lining of the most perfect blue like the deepest part of the ocean. She also observed that she had a pair of some sort of feathery fins on her back that were almost pure white but faded to grey at their tips.
"Who are you?" The being asked, her voice high pitched and young.
Abzu blinked at her, "Me??"
The girl giggled again, "Nooo, I was talking to the cocoanut tree. Of course you, who are you? What are you ?" She titled her head to the side.
"I'd like to ask the same of you." Abzu said. You certainly don't look like you came from the ocean...
"Alrighty." The girl shrugged, "I'm a Wing, Wings are a people with wings like mine and we can fly and we're free people." Abzu was already a sentence into her explanation and was already lost. The girl sensed her confusion and sighed. "Flying is going to the sky and doing whatever." The girl pointed. "We fly with these." The girl gestured to her wings. "Anyway, I am called a Wing; and my name is Altora. You are?"
"Abzu, and uh... I'm a diver." Abzu kinda wished she had more of an explanation of what she was. But she didn't know, all she does know is that she woke up one day with a weird instinct to save the underwater palace.
"So you can swim? Do you need air?? What's it like to swim? I tried before but I can't really swim well... are you just by yourself like I am???" Altora fired off questions.
"Wait, by yourself?" Abzu stared at her.
"Welll.. you see I kinda woke up on this island we're on, all I have are vague memories.." Altora shrugged.
I wish I had memories of where I came from, Abzu thought. Abzu then looked at Altora who smiled at her...
