Ch 2
I was laying in the middle of a field, watching the clear night sky. These stars can't be real, I thought to myself, they exploded across the darkness in purples, reds, blues and whites, a bridge of colors only seen in movies. "Where am I?" I asked out loud, my voice echoing off the trees.
Sitting up, I noticed the circle of stones around me. Standing, I headed towards the edge of the ring, my eyes fixated on the white stone. Getting closer I see they seem to be slightly glowing, radiating even. When I get close enough I lean down to touch one, only to be stopped by a crashing noise behind me.
The sight of it was scary, it's dangerous aura seeped out of every crevice. It's dull grey, scale-covered hide rippled with every step it took, a fearsome creature of the sky. Standing at least a story tall at its shoulder, it's beautiful but soulless eyes were a pitch black. Dragon, a huge, fire-breathing, man-eating dragon, and it's right in front of me.
It stretched it's wings out and roared at me angrily, I flinched at the loudness of it. "Come here, girl," a deep voice told me. I jumped at the sound, looking around for the speaker. "You stupid girl, there is no one else here but me," the voice growled at me once again. The malice inside the voice had me shivering, the voice was coming from the dragon. "Oh god, this is it, I really am going crazy!" I whispered to myself.
"Nevermind that, come here!" he snarled.
Slowly, I shook my head, I had a feeling if this creature took me it would cause more harm than good. A deep, malicious growl tore through the air rising to the loud roar. The dragon charged at me, only to hit an invisible wall at the edge of the white stones, causing them to brighten and the closest ones even sparked. He roared in rage, clawing at the wall. "Come to me girl! I will burn your flesh from your bones if you do not!" His voice caused my ears to ring as I crouched and covered them.
A loud shriek rang through the air like something was trying to break a sound barrier. The dragon's head snapped to the sky, right before he burst into flames...
I shot up and out of bed, a silent scream on my lips. Looking around, I realized I was at home, safe. Shakely, I ran my fingers through my sweat soaked hair and walked into my bathroom to take a quick shower, before going downstairs and starting breakfast. Aunt Tess wouldn't be awake enough to make a decent meal, and would more like fall asleep and burn the house down, trust me it almost happened once.
Trying to make the least amount of noise, I crept down the steps and into the kitchen. Like always, somehow the mess was entirely clean, except the inside of one of the pans was a dark blue. I guess we're going to have blue pancakes, I thought. It took a little while before all of the food was finished, and the smell brought in a bunch of half-asleep faces.
I smiled as I watched Trevor help Kenny into her seat as Kase attempted to clammer into his. Aunt Tess chuckled and helped him, only to be scolded by the stubborn five-year-old. "Mom, I'm five now, I'm a big boy now," he scowled at her, "so I don't need help."
Aunt Tess smiled at him, "Really? What if I want to help?"
"I'll tell you not to," he replied firmly.
I walked over and places the plates of food in front of them, before picking up my notepad, "even big boys need help sometimes."
He looked at Aunt Tess, confused, "I'll help you sound it out," She laughed, making Kase blush and pout. After a little while, Kase asked, "really?"
I nodded and signed instead, "Yup, no one can do everything by themselves."
Aunt Tess translated before all of us dug into the blue pancakes, though Kenny wanted to play with it more then eat it. I remembered when we first found the young girl. I had seen her out the corner of my eye a year ago, shivering in an alleyway. The redhead had stared at me as I had her, before flinging herself at me and clinging to my neck. Tess had almost had a heart attack when I had stumbled into the house with her.
