Joshua's P.O.V
Sometimes I think life isn't worth living for. I have no one who truly cares for me. Ever since that day my life has changed drastically.
*Flashback*
My mom and I were driving home from the grocery store. She was all smiles and was cracking corny jokes; we always have a good time together. My mom's favorite song Never Too Much by Luther Vandross came on and she started singing the lyrics.
I can't fool myself, I don't want nobody else to ever love me
You are my shinin' star, my guiding light, my love fantasy
There's not a minute, hour, day or night that I don't love you
You're at the top of my list 'cause I'm always thinkin' of you
She smiled and pointed at me while she sung.
I still remember in the days when I was scared to touch you
How I spent my day dreamin', plannin' how to say, "I love you"
You must have known that I had feelings deep enough to swim in
That's when you opened up your heart and you told me to come in
She was having so much fun that I decided to sing with her.
Oh, my love
A thousand kisses from you is never too much
I just don't wanna stop
Oh, my love
A million days in your arms is never too much
I just don't wanna stop
(Never too much, never too much, never too much, never too much)
Woke up today, looked at your picture just to get me started
I called you up, but you weren't there and I was broken hearted
Hung up the phone, can't be too late, the boss is so demandin'
Opened the door up and to my surprise there you were standin'
Who needs to go to work to hustle for another dollar
I'd rather be with you 'cause you make my heart scream and holler
Love is a gamble and I'm so glad that I am winnin'
We've come a long way and yet this is only the beginnin'
Oh, my love
A thousand kisses from you is never too much
(Never too much, never too much, never too much)
I just don't wanna stop
Oh, my love
A million days in your arms is never too much
(Never too much, never too much, never too much)
And I just don't wanna stop
Oh, my love
A thousand kisses from you is never, never, never, never
(Never too much, never too much, never too much)
I just don't wanna stop
Oh, my love
A million days in your arms is never too much
By the time the song ended, we were laughing so hard there were tears in our eyes. I happened to look up and see my mom had swerved onto the wrong side of the road. I could see a huge truck speeding towards us.
"MOM! LOOK OUT," I shouted.
But it was too late. I could feel the impact of the truck as my head snapped back painfully. My body jerked forward before my head connected with the dashboard with a loud thud. The last thing I saw was my mom's bloody, unconscious body, before everything faded to black.

Later That Night
It all seemed like a dream. The flash of headlights, the screeching of tires, the sound of metal being crushed. I woke up to a bright light shining into my eyes. I looked around and saw massive amounts of tubes and heard the beeping of many machines. I then realized I was lying in a hospital bed. I quickly tried to sit up but a severe pain shot through my entire body.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you," a voice said.
I turned and saw a woman and realized she was a doctor. I just stared at her blankly.
"My name is Dr. Sitro and I've been taking care of you for the past few days."
"Where's my mom! Is she okay? Please tell me she's okay," I cried.
That's when I saw it. A certain look in her eyes, sadness maybe, no sympathy.
"WHERE'S MY MOTHER GOD DAMN IT?!
"I'm sorry Mr.Sande..." she started.
"NO...NO DON'T YOU DARE," I yelled.
"I'm sorry Joshua, she didn't make it. Her injuries were too severe."
A choked sob escaped my lips. My mom. My mom can't be gone. It can't just be me and dad, we've always had mom.
"My dad... where's my dad," I asked.
"He only came to the hospital when he heard about the accident. Once he found out your mother didn't make it... he left and never came back," Dr. Sitro said.
That's when I knew our lives would change forever that day. I will always remember Rebecca Sanders, my mother.
*End of Flashback*
I was right when I said our lives would change forever that day. I was 10 years old that day. My dad began to drink and use hardcore drugs. Over time it gradually became worse. He began to physically and mentally abuse me every chance he got and there was nothing I could do about it.
My name is Joshua Sanders, I'm 16 years old, and I live in Seattle, Washington with my dad, Michael Sanders. I currently attend Legacy High School, which is a complete hell hole for me. This is my story.
