"Jade, turn up the radio!"
I smiled, cranking the volume as our favourite song blasted through the speakers. I looked at Danny, who was grinning from ear to ear as we flew down the road in his old slab of metal that he called his car. I laughed, my cheeks hurting from the constant action, "Sing!" I screamed.
Danny let out a chuckle before he joined in on the lyrics, his voice squeaking at the end of each word. I laughed at his adorable humor, lost in his bright blue eyes as he reached over the clutch and held my hand in his. He looked at me, a loving look radiating from his expression. "Eyes on the road," I said with a wink.
He smirked as he returned his gaze out the cracked windshield. I grinned as the chorus of the song blared through the speakers. I turned the music up once again and raised my arms above my head as high as they'd go without hitting the roof of the car. I shook my head back and forth, singing as my long, auburn hair swung wildly as I screamed the lyrics. Danny laughed beside me, his perfect teeth glowing in the sunlight.
I let myself smile as my mind wandered to all of the amazing memories I had shared with my boyfriend. He wasn't just my boyfriend, he was the love of my life, my other half, my best friend, hell he was my soul mate. Four years was a long time, and even though I was only 17, there wasn't a doubt in either of our minds that we would spend the rest of our lives together.
"Louder!" he laughed, breaking my thoughts as his smile shone once again. I giggled, singing louder as I stared out the window. The sunset tore through the glass, the yellow, red, and orange streaks painting the sky as the sun travelled past the hills. I looked back at Danny, his fingers tapping the edge of the steering wheel to the beat of the music as he sang along to the words.
I grinned, giving his hand a squeeze, "I love you!" I screamed over the music. He turned to me, a huge smile spread across his face, "I love you too," he said quieter, his eyes softening as his lips curved up even more. I grinned, looking back at the road.
Headlights.
That's all I saw. My reaction time was thin. My finger pointed to the road as I screamed, "Danny look out!" The shriek escaped my throat as Danny gripped the steering wheel, fighting to turn it as I covered my face with my arms. The car veered to the left, but not quick enough as I cried out in fear. The gut wrenching sound of metal against metal rang in my ears, and suddenly my head slammed back against the seat.
And then my world turned black.
