There we stood. Together, as friends. On the edge of a cliff on the longest day in July, just waiting, waiting, to jump in to the deep blue ocean. We stopped, thought... then jumped. As I fell, I remembered how his eyes were deep brown. His skin, a tamed pink. The deepest crimson lips, almost blood stained to perfection. That mysterious, loving, gentle, man...
It was the start of a new school term at Redcarr High and my group of friends (Sophie, Shauna, Becky, Kylie and Katrina) had all met up that morning before coming to school. I waited outside my house to walk with them. My new black dolly shoes. White knee high socks. Short, black, pleated skirt. White polo shirt. Short, long sleeved, black cardigan. Pure, snow white skin. Blood coated lips. Small petite nose. Pale blue eyes. Long lashes. And the fieriest ginger curly locks, in the entire school. Me. Collette Forest. The smart one, the leader, the pretty one, THE ONE. The one every girl wanted to be like. Size 12 body, size 5 shoe and size 34B bust. They all came round the corner in their own little way. Sophie had this sort of little skip in her step, as she came round the corner in her bright white Dr.Martens, with her blonde hair flowing like a majestic mane. Shauna strolled round with the same fetch glasses on which accentuate her eyes perfectly, making them seem like dark brown pools. Becky wandered into view in her tight leather looking leggings, always bright and happy with her appearance. Kylie, always trying to out do me in every way, copies me from head to toe, but will not dye her hair ginger, is a replica of me with golden blonde hair. Kylie, is the most bitchiest person in the entire group and she will lie just to get into anyone's pants. She is also, the BIGGEST slut in the entire school and possibly the town. Then there was little Katrina. She always seemed so vulnerable whenever I saw her. The others left her at the back of the group, not involving her. She almost seemed lost with the way her eyes scanned the girl's and her surroundings. Until, that split second where she locks eyes with her cousin, and I am there to reassure her everything is fine and she is one of us... always will be no matter what. I was in charge. They did as I say.
Walking to school became a fashion walk more than a task. We knew the routes where the boys walked and we knew their times. Jack, 8:14. Scott 8:17. Liam 8:21. Ryan 8:23. And Ben 8:25. They all meet up at the shop by 8:30 and we made sure we were there. If there was any gossip, any news or any fights, we were there to spread, make and tell the world, what Redcarr High had to offer. The shop became known as the gossip hut. Even the shopkeeper, David, was willing to call the shop, The Gossip Hut, but was afraid of losing market from others. He, himself, took part in the gossiping and was the ultimate secret keeper. David knows so much about us girls than anyone else does. Stuff we wouldn't even tell each other. Trusting David was like praying to God. We knew he was always going to be there, even in the middle of the night, if we needed someone to talk to or someone to comfort us. We chatted to the lads and then we made our way from the gossip hut to the school gates. I didn't expect what happened next...
