"Omg..." I thought. What do I say, what do I do, I've always been collected and kept to myself. I've already smiled, he has too, so I blurt "What?.." he said "I don't know, I just thought you were kind of cute." WHAT!? Max thinks I'm cute!? Oh my gosh. I just blushed and looked forward. Did I miss my chance to flirt back? I should have said "You're not bad yourself" or something. What a moron. I had the opportunity. So I just kick myself all period long and we don't speak until passing period.
"Still on for lunch?" Max asked. "Sure, see you then." I replied, then I darted off to gym.
The entire 4th period my stomach is in knots. To think things over I hit the track and run intervals. What am I going to say to him at lunch? I mean, this requires me to put more effort into my appearance now that someone has a crush on me! I've run 5 laps by this point, then Mrs. Anderson calls us in to get dressed down. As I strip off my grey gym shirt I put on my dark blue and dark red horizontally striped shirt, it looks like it belongs from the 90's, but that's my style. I slip on my light blue mom jeans and white converse, take a good look in the mirror at myself and still wonder what Max sees in me. I run my fingers through my hair and throw it up in a ponytail. I dart out the door as the bell rings, and I still hadn't though if what to say to Max. Now it was lunch time... I saw him brush his fingers through his neat-but-scruffy dirty blonde hair and smile, signifying that he saw me. "Hey" I said quietly, but loud enough so that he could hear me over the chaos of the cafeteria. "Hey" he replied, blushing. "Where should we sit?" He said. "Here looks fine." I suggested, pointing to the only table that didn't have chocolate milk if applesauce spilled all over the place. We both brought lunch, which meant that we didn't have to wait in that never-ending lunch line. We sat down and I pulled out my grapes, PBJ sandwich, and Ritz crackers. I, surprisingly, was the one to start conversation first. "So, you actually think I'm cute?.." "Well, actually, you're really cute..." my heart sank, he added on "Maybe we could hang out after school?"
