"I am not someone who is
easy to love. I am not
                      someone who is taken
                      lightly. And most of all
I am not someone to burn
For I am the fire, my soul
                      is on fire and everything
                      I live to touch becomes
one with the fire. So ask
                      yourself if you're willing
                      to burn. "

I stepped outside, greeted with an older woman crying. It was the woman who held her child, Willow, back after my ceremonial Trial. Only guards and fighters were allowed outdoors at a time like this and she was the only civilian I could see in my peripheral vision.

She stepped towards me pleadingly. "Ms. Hunter, my children are terribly frightened. Please reassure me that I can tell my kids that everything will be fine." Her lashes were damp with tears and her fear made me pause. I was never good with people crying, or any extremely emotional situation, so I pursed my lips solemnly, unsure on how to console her.

"I will do my best." I managed to muster up.

Just then, two guards quickly walked up to us, each one grabbing one of her arms. Mark, one of the guards who spent a lot of his time looking after me as a child, spoke up. "I apologize. She slipped through us."

For a moment, I was angered they allowed anyone to unwillingly pass them, afraid that my mother could potentially escape the same way, but as I eyed the desperate mother in front of me, I clenched my jaw, deciding to take Sihnons words to heart and not chastise random people.

"Have you set the mandatory house arrest? No one outside until notice?"

He nodded.

"Alright, take her home." She sent me petrified cries as she was escorted back to her home. I gripped at my temples in frustration. I had finally ripped out of the confines of the piercing nails my mother had dug into me as a child and now she's using my fathers beloved people to get to me.

I clutched my black leather jacket tighter around my chest, the blistering heat consoling me for an abnormal, unknown reason. Then, I began running. The path was long, but with my long, determined strides, I arrived in at the stone fortification in less than five minutes. A few men were already exiting our safe zone, others stood alert at the wall while our remaining fighters patrolled the area extensively. I used my fingers to whistle to one of the men atop the cement enclosure whom I recognized to be Pierce, a trusted fighter. He looked down at me briefly before noticing who I was, causing him do a double take. He skillfully jumped down from the fourteen feet tall wall catching the attention of the other guards. "Back to work." He spoke loudly to the men.

Pierce turned to me, giving me his full attention. "Yes, Alpha?"

I flashed back to the first person who said that to me hours prior and flinched at the words. "Call me Avalyn for now, alright?"

He nodded with no objections. "Of course, what can I help you with?"

"Reed?" I questioned.

"Off with a large group searching the forest."

I took this information in before recalling my mothers nature. She may act brilliantly daft, but she's much smarter than people realize. I won't lose people because I underestimated a woman in heels. My father taught me better than that. "She won't be in the forest." I stated surely.
