Chapter One- Meeting with Detective Douche

Rein

Time went by in a very slow fashion. He knew things might be changing on the outside while he lay on a lumpy cot in the county jail for his brother's crimes. The cell was dank, as expected, and the ceiling he now stared up at was stained, as was the walls. The dark gray concrete floor looked like it had seen too many urinal rioting days.

He was in the county jail in solitary confinement. Not for his protection, but for the protection of the other inmates. Apparently, the warden saw him as one of the worlds most dangerous killers. There was four other men on the same block, all whom are viewed too dangerous to be in General Population. One at a time they would be allowed out of their cell for an hour to walk around or do whatever they wanted so long as they received their hour.

At the moment, Rein was staring up at his ceiling plotting his revenge on his brother. He had imagined many scenarios and repeatedly pictured Ryder's death until his brother's dead eyes seared into his brain. It hurt him that Ryder betrayed him and left him to take the fall. He never saw the betrayal coming, especially not over his Doll. She was water to his blood and blood is thicker than water. He should have chosen him over some victim that would have gotten Ryder caught, anyway. But he didn't choose his brother over his girl. He pinned every crime he ever committed, left all evidence out for the Police to see in the cellar, and left him to fight for his freedom.

He would be confined until the start of his trial and until sentencing because he had no one to bail him out. Unless... Unless he could hire a hell of a defense team and put Ryder's house up as collateral or prove his innocence. The latter seemed almost impossible to do. The substantial evidence against him is overwhelming; damning. They would never find him innocent. They would give him the death penalty. If he could bail out, then he could find some way to prove he's innocent. He could start there and work his way up to freedom and then follow the trail of the Ghost.

It was lunch time for the block. He couldn't believe the jail was able to serve the dog shit they serve to the inmates. The correctional officer (he called Rudolf) stepped up to his door and placed his lunch tray through the door slot. The man was burly but had a pot belly and a red nose — hence the nickname Rudolf — was balding on top and had a gruff voice.

"My compliments to the chef, Rudolf. This looks..." as he looked down at the trays contents, he scrunched his nose up in disgust at the pig slop he was meant to eat, "appetizing."

"Eat it or starve. I don't care either way it goes, you're the one who will get thrown into the hole for starving yourself."

Rein's dark eyes peered into Rudolf's blue ones, a warning shining clearly behind his penetrating stare. Rudolf didn't pay heed to the warning. He raised his brow and shot a warning of his own.
