I woke up in an overly lit room. Immediately I jumped to the worst conclusion, but decided that I had a pulse and was going to remain alive....hopefully.
With squinted eyes, I looked around the room for any signs that might have clarified where I was. There was literally nothing in the room except for me, the bed I refused to get out of, and the IV rehydrating my body. As cool as it would have been, I decided not to rip it out. I've heard that it's dangerous and that if one is placed inside your skin there is good reason to keep it there.
For some odd reason I decided to trust the idea that I was in a safe place based on the observation and conclusion that someone wanted me to be healthy by taking the time to insert an IV. Above all the questions I had brewing in my head, the burning one was the most obvious: where was Matthew?
I hear footsteps approaching a door hidden in the bright haze of a room. They knock, although I don't know why. It's not like they knew I was awake, right?
"April? Are you awake yet?" The mysterious voice called beyond the still hidden door. I probably should pretend to be asleep but I decide that I'm curious. "Yeah I'm awake. You can come in." Wherever in was.
Apparently my ears defy me as I was looking at the opposite wall the entry was on.
It's hard at first to focus on the features of the new face I'm introduced to, but after a bit I make out some brown hair and vibrant green eyes. I've never seen such a color.
"Glad to know you aren't entirely terrified of me," the stranger jokes. He couldn't have been older than 17.
"What makes you think I'm scared of you at all," I tease. Am I supposed to flirt now? I've never met a guy around my age that's this attractive.
"Well let's break it down. You almost just died not once but twice, you have bruises all over your beautiful body and you woke up in a stranger's house. If you aren't scared, then you're the bravest girl I've ever encountered."
Did he just call me....beautiful?
And brave?
And a girl? Oh wait that's to be expected.
"Uh...." I'm so caught off guard right now. I've never received such a compliment. What should I do?
"What happened? Did I do something to offend you?" Offend me? How in the heck could you offend me? Are compliments considered rude where he comes from?
"Uh...." Oh my god April can you even do anything instead of make a huge fool out of yourself?
"Earth to April? Are you alright? I hope your blow to the head didn't cause your brain to go into paralysis." Dang this guy is that stereotypical cocky teenager in a variation the world has never seen. He makes puppies look like they aren't doing their job correctly.
"Um..." OH MY GOD APRIL SAY ACTUAL WORDS INSTEAD OF BLABBING SOUNDS LIKE A 4 YEAR OLD.
"Um? You're scaring me April. Are you okay?"
THAT'S IT IM GOING TO FIND A HOLE AND DIE IN IT BECAUSE MY BRAIN IS ALREADY THERE.
"Yeah I'm fine just a little caught off guard." Phew. Nice to know I still have some conversation abilities.
"Was it something I said? Did I offend you?"
"No of course not..." I keep getting lost in those eyes.
"Well what happened? You suddenly shut down on me. That scares a person when it was them who spoke last." Those lovely green eyes. They're like magnets to my lips.

April
"April wake up," he says.
"Excuse me?"
"April wake up!" My body is violently shaken.
My eyes shot open to find a paramedic shining a flashlight into my pupils. "April can you hear me?" All I can do is make incoherent noises. The EMT takes that as his answer. "It's alright, April, we're heading to a hospital okay? Just focus on me. We can't have you fall asleep again with your concussion. You might slip into a coma." I keep my eyes focused on the EMT but my ears drift off somewhere else
It was all just a dream? How? I've never seen him before. I would have known if I did. This couldn't have been a dream. Where is Matthew?
