As soon as Marlene left, everyone became a lot less tense. Well, until Jordan got a phone call from the police.
"Hello, Jordan speaking.", "oh, my god, is she okay?", "yes, yes... of course, I'll be right there."
Jordan hangs up the phone and looks at me.
"Marlene tried committing suicide", Jordan tells me.
"Is she okay?", I ask.
"She overdosed on sleeping pills but called an ambulance when she realised what she had done", he tells me as he grabs his stuff.
"Where are you going?", I ask, following him.
"To the hospital..." he says, obviously wanting to add a 'duh' onto the end of the sentence.
"Why? Wouldn't her parents be there?", I ask, my heart about to beat right out of my chest.
"Well, yeah... but she's going to need me", Jordan says as he opens the door.
"Jordan, if you go to the hospital because your ex-wife supposedly needs you, I won't be here when you get back", I say. He doesn't say anything, just walks out the door after a slight pause, taking my heart with him.
I feel tears spill over as I slide down the wall, having never felt this alone since my parents died when I was fourteen and my brother was in the army. Sobbing, I feel a swift kick to my ribs, the baby telling me to stop crying.

---------------

After I packed all the clothes I could fit in my suitcase and backpack, along with my kindle and laptop, I walk over to the kitchen bench, take my ring off and put it on the counter. I walk to the front door and walk out of the house, my dream house, that Jordan bought for us and our family two months ago.
As I get onto the main road, I realise I don't know where I'm going. Making a split decision, I head north, heading to my brothers house.

------------------

I'm at a student crossing waiting for the kids to cross when, all of a sudden, my car is forcefully pushed forward by another car as it crashes into the back of mine.
Everything goes black.
