Old Man

One day i walked through a park,

Feeling quite mad,

When i saw an old man on a bench,

Looking quite sad.

So i asked, "Old man, why are you sad?"

And he looked up and said "I'll tell you why I'm sad."

"I'm sad because i lost my wife

In a terrible war

Not one concerning others,

But a personal war.

You see,

In a dream,

I met a man whose name i shall not speak,

And he told me he loved me,

Which made my heart beat.

See here, I've never loved a man in my life,

But this lad was filled with youth and strength.

He told me to follow him down the stream,

Then held me and kissed me, then turned to leave.

When I awoke,

A feeling I had,

To follow that stream,

To find that lad.

So i left without warning,

Not a single goodbye

And walked down the stream,

No care in my eyes.

But the end came near

And the lad didn't appear,

And I waited,

And waited,

For a long time.

Wishing every day i didn't have that dream,

But now i dream a dream,

Of staying with her."

Then i turned away,

Without a single word,

And walked down that stream.

Going forward.

Had i believed

That sorrowful man

I'd have been back

With a wife at my hand.

But here I wait,

With a new story to tell,

For that lad to come,

And break that spell.
