It was dark.
It was cold and dark. I touched my skin softly and I felt goosebumps all over. I only had a top on and a long thin skirt both gray and brown. My name is Tashima. I am 15 years old. My name means the happy one, but I am not really happy. I live in the ruthless streets of Birgunj in Nepal.
I heard footsteps coming from behind me.
"Tashi, why are you still here? You should be already gone with the cows! It is already 5 am! You know you need an hour till you get there. Also if you don't get there soon all the good stands will be taken. So hurry up!", my mother shouted at me. Then she walked away, whispering to herself: " Arrgh, why did she have to be born. She is my biggest mistake. Tashima Saachi is a waste of my money I always give her everything, she doesn't give me anything back."
I didn't want to hear the rest, so I walked to the cows and made my way to the market. It is a long way, but I have been doing this everyday since I was 5. With no big success. So I'm fine...
As I finally got there, I quickly took the last good stand left. It was made out of wood. It had 2 big wooden poles on each side dig into the ground with a table that has been attached to the poles. The table had 3 draws as wide as the table itself. So it is impossible to see my legs from in front of me. I tied the rope which was attached to the cows mouths onto one of the wooden poles. "COWS! BUY YOUR COW HERE! ONLY 1152 NPR!", I shouted into the market. A couple of people came but left without buying a cow. At last there came a man. He was old. He had half bold grey hair. Only hair on the sides a big grey moustache and a big beer belly. He had very brown skin and Asian eyes. He wore a red kimono with blue flowers on it. "How much for that cow?", he said pointing at one of my cows. "1152 NPR that would be." I answered. "Who are your parents? My dear." He asked me.
"Keya and Advik Saachi. We live in Shreepur an hour away by foot. And do not call me dear." I exclaimed. "Not so rude Miss... Saachi? I would like to take that cow please." He responded. "Here you go Mister." I said while unknotting the rope of the cow he was looking at. "Here is your money and have a nice day." He added and walked away. "Bye!", I replied, but he didn't hear me. What a weird guy.
