I saw him at my table for art. I yelled at him to get out and he did, but then sat right back down a minute later, after I sat down. He just stared at me like I was food and he hadn't ate in months. My friend, Drew, didn't think he was good enough for me, but I didn't listen because I'm my own person.
Later that week, he caught up to me in the courtyard, skipping class and crying. He came to me so calmly so I thought he was Mr. Tothe. He sat down next to me and handed me a slip of paper:
Dear Anna,
I know how you feel because I'm in the exact same situation you are in. My parents were broken by my aunt, I know about your uncle, and Zoe. I am so sorry! I promise you I will get her back for you. My brother was given away and later, killed because he was in a similar situation like us. I've seen your dogs; they are cute!
