Veronica's POV

I walked off the bus and grabbed my bags and took in my surroundings. I was currently on a hunt for my birth father. My mom has always kept me away from him for some odd reason.

"Excuse me, are you lost or something?" A girl asked.

"No, but I was wondering where I could find a pay phone at?" I asked. She gave me a sweet smile and then pointed by the doors.

"It's right over there." She said and then walked away.

"Thanks." I said and grabbed my bags and walked over to it. I set my bags down and put in the quarter and called a cab. I walked outside and waited with my stuff. The cab pulled up and I walked over and got in with my stuff.

"Where to?' He asked looking in the mirror straight at me.

"Uh, the closest hotel please." I said. He nodded and started driving.

"New to California?" He asked.

"Sorta." I said. He nodded and just drove. We pulled up to the Holiday Inn and I paid him and got out and grabbed my stuff and I walked inside and to the receptionist.

"Hello, welcome to the Holiday Inn." The lady said looking up at me.

"Hi, I'd like a room." I said.

"For how long?" She asked.

"Indefinite." I said.

"You do know that means until you check out, right?" She asked.

"This isn't my first rodeo. I know." I said.

"Alright." She said. Once we got everything set up, I walked to the elevator and got on and pressed the third floor button and leaned back.

"Wait! Hold the elevator!" I heard a guy yell. I hit the button to open the elevator doors. They opened and the guy ran in. He hit the third floor button and the doors closed. "Thanks." He said. He was like 5'6, brown shoulder length hair, brown eyes, snapback, cargo shorts, a red long sleeve shirt, and converse. He was really cute. He looked Hispanic.

"Uh, yeah, no problem." I said and looked down. I get very awkward around new people. The elevator got to the third floor and the doors opened. I grabbed my stuff and walked off.

"Do you want some help?" He asked.

"That would be helpful, but I don't want to be a burden." I said.

"Hey, it's not a burden at all." He said and grabbed some from me. We started walking to my hotel room. "So, since I'm helping you to your room. I should at least get to know your name." He said. I giggled a little.

"I'm Veronica, but people call me Ronnie,." I said and unlocked the hotel door.

"I'm Vic." He said.

"Nice to meet you." I said as we walked in. We set the bags by the door.

"You, too." He said.

"Thanks for the help." I said.

"It's not a problem." He said. I smiled. "Listen, I should get back to my hotel room. My friends are waiting for me." He shoved is hands in his pockets.

"Alright." I said.

"Could I possibly get your number?" He asked.

"Uh, I currently don't have a phone." I said.

"Oh, uh, okay. Well, I'll be staying here for a few more days. Hopefully we'll run into each other again." He said smiling a little.

"Hopefully. Again, thank you." I said.
