Chapter One
Today is my birthday! And David Tennant's, because we're just connected like that.
"Happy birthday!" Mum sang, holding my birthday cake out in front of me.
It was a regular cake cut into the silhouette of the TARDIS and covered with blue, white and black fondant to look like it. There were thirteen candles, the flames flickering and dancing. I sucked in a great puff of air and blew out, making the flames disappear.
"What did you wish for?" Dad queried.
"I can't tell you or it won't come true." I tapped my nose and grinned.
Mum and Dad rolled their eyes. She put down the cake and started cooking breakfast. A few minutes later, a plate of three pancakes was in front of me. I soaked them in chocolate sauce, squirty cream and fudge sauce. I dug in, munching happily through my gloriously unhealthy breakfast.
"Mels? We have some news." Mum started, picking at her perfect nails.
"What is it?" I ran my finger along the remainder of the mingling sauces and stuck it in my mouth.
"You're Dad wants to tell you." She said quickly, glancing at him.
"Well, you're going to this camp for a couple of weeks. You've been invited. It's a great place." He said it all in a rush.
"Cool. What's it called?"
"It's called the Green Fandom Centre." Mum supplied.
"Sure. I'll go get dressed."
I jumped up and went upstairs to my bedroom. I dressed in my white t-shirt with the printed bow-tie and braces, my walnut brown skirt, shiny black boots and my hazel coat. After fixing my hair and putting on my necklaces, wristbands and hair bow, I filled my satchel with a couple of things (my diary, my phone, my sonic screwdriver, my purse and my keys) and hopped downstairs. My TARDIS suitcase sat by the door beside Mum and Dad.
"Well, off we go!"
*
"Bye, Mum! Bye, Dad!" I called, waving as they left the centre.
"Now, let's take you to the Hall." The friendly woman said, leading me to the largest room, filled with people.
One girl rushed up to me, wearing a similar outfit.
"Happy birthday, David Tennant!" She squealed, grabbing my hand.
"I know, right! It's my birthday too."
"Lucky!"
She led me to a group, each wearing a different outfit to represent their fandoms.
"Hey." One greeted softly.
He was dressed only in the colours purple, black and white.
"Are you Nightvale?" I questioned.
"Yeah. All hail the mighty glow cloud." A smile twitched the corners of his lips.
"So, what are your guys' names?"
"I'm Jess." A slim girl with raven hair twirled in a bun on her head. Her t-shirt declared "GOD OF MISCHIEF".
"I'm Tess, Jess' sister." Another said. She looked identical to Jess, except her t-shirt was a copy of the old Thor comics.
"I'm Seth." Mr Nightvale answered.
"Mina, fan of Harry Potter." She wore a Gryffindor uniform.
"Sandra." She seemed close to tears and her t-shirt was the title card from Breaking Bad.
"Guys, let's just give her time to relax. Let her look around and stuff." Miss Doctor Who intervened. "I'm Caitlynn by the way."
Caitlynn, Jess, Tess, Seth, Mina, Sandra and a couple of others formed themselves around me and we went over to the serving hatch. I went to the first window and collected a deep-filled sandwich, a bottle of pomegranate juice and a fruit salad. I sat at the emptiest table and began chewing through my sandwiches, sipping my juice and savouring the sweet fruit.
The woman from earlier came rushing over to me, passed me a key with minimal explanation and left again. Seth slid in the car next to me and read the label on the key.
"Super, you're with Caitlynn. It's like fate, huh?"
"Hmm."
*
Ten was the curfew and it was lights out by midnight. Caitlynn and I made our way to room 221a and sat outside the door for a little while, watching people pass. A girl of about fifteen came to the door next to us and let out a tiny squeal.
"Even after all this time, I still can't believe I'm in 221b. It's like it was meant to be. I'm Shannon." She added when she saw me.
I noted her "I AM SHER-LOCKED" jumped and yellow jeans with a pair of converse patterned to look like the wallpaper.
"I like your outfit." I complimented.
"Thanks. I like yours too." She smiled and entered her room.
"I think we should go in now." Caitlynn urged softly, starting to unlock the door.
We both went inside and we changed into our pyjamas. Mine consisted of an oversized Weeping Angel t-shirt and grey flannel shorts. It was easy to fall asleep after the full day.
A/n: Melanie's outfit is on the side. Made by my friend, Liz. :)
