Ariel straightened her thick brown glasses, her brown eyes swayed across the room. She pursed her lips awkwardly. Her teacher, a tall man with a lumberjack type of style, began to applaud. The class following slowly.
"Wonderful presentation, Miss Miranda." Her teacher smiled, "Thank you."
Ariel awkwardly walked to her seat, stumbling and falling not so gracefully onto the uncomfortable metal chair. She eyed the clock, only a minute or less from the weekend.
She brushed her strawberry blonde hair out of her face as she tapped her pencil quietly as the teacher explained the chapters in a brief summary.
The satisfying ring of the familiar bells loudly announced the beginning of the nice, but short weekend. Ariel planned to sit at her desk and begin designing a fashion line for her Art class, As soon as Ariel was done with high school she planned to intern for a fashion company hopefully. If not, she was pretty fond about becoming a lawyer.
"Ariel, wait up!"
She spun around to see a familiar face run and pat her on the back.
"Wonderful presentation Ari, I got chills." Her friend, Mandy, complimented, "I can't believe you didn't cry during the presentation, it was very moving."
"It got pretty close." Ariel responded with a giggle. Mandy punched her shoulder lightly, Mandy's dyed-red hair getting in her face.
"I'm sure you did, I didn't know you had a heart beneath all that foundation." Mandy teased, pointing to Ariel's clean face. Ariel pushed Mandy's hand down and rolled her eyes.
"One day you too will wear makeup." Ariel promised, "When you do, I'm going to make fun of you as much as possible."
Mandy was a baby-face. Despite her being 17 years old, she looked only about 14. She had hazel-green eyes and pale skin. Ariel's closest friend, and may have been the only friend if Mandy didn't have a sister.
"Okay Ari. I have to go to choir. I'll see you Monday." Mandy said, hugging Ariel happily.
"Of coarse." Ariel nodded.
"I'll text you." Mandy said, running back into the school, looking over her shoulder as Ariel walked towards her car.
Ariel shuffled through her book bag, unable to locate her car keys. She pressed her face against the glass of her car and spotted the keys safely inside the cup holder. Ariel grunted, banging on the glass and swearing under her breath, she sighed as she began to walk home. Once she got the spare key, she could just walk back and fetch her car. It was only a good 30 minute walk away. It wasn't like Ariel had better things to do.
The sky turned gray as the afternoon sky turned into a cloudy mess. If only she checked her phone earlier, she would've saw the 70% chance of thunder. She cursed her cluelessness.
She heard a shuffle come from behind her.
She nervously peered through the corner of her eyes and saw a man walking alone, wearing a green sweatshirt and facing the ground. He walked threateningly to her. She stiffened as he walked right up to her and then strangely walked right past her.
She felt her heart slow down, and she took a hesitant breath, continuing her walk.
She felt a rough hand tighten across her waist, she began to scream, another arm went across her mouth, she heard the heavy breath of a man behind her, she bit the arm and heard the man yelp, he threw her onto the concrete. Ariel began to kick and flail her arms around, crying for help as loud as she could. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a cloth.Ariel saw enough movies to know what the cloth was for. She began to crawl away, keeping her eyes locked on the man.
He jumped on her causing Ariel to hit her head back onto the concrete causing a throbbing, continuous pain. She winced as she screamed louder, her arms being held down by the man's legs. He forced the cloth on to her mouth and nose, Ariel yelled for Mandy, yelled for that green hoodies man, yelled for help.
But no one came.
"Sweet dreams, delicious little mermaid..."
