I sat in my bed with a bathrobe on because I was freezing. I held the Vodka book in my hands tightly, trying not to let go of it. My fingers felt numb as if they were frozen, even though it was about 60 degrees outside. My hair was all messy, and I had goose bumps covering my skin.

Vodka is an addictive substance that can overtake the entire body pulling you into alcoholism, and keeping you there. Vodka is not only an addictive alcohol, it's also one of the most widely used alcohols by people of this decade. Two in every five people choose vodka as their drink of choice. The definition of vodka is: a distilled beverage composed primarily of water and ethanol, sometimes with traces of impurities and flavorings. Vodka is made by the distillation of fermented substances such as grains, potatoes, or sometimes fruits or sugar. Though it may sound like a tasty drink (which people consider it to be), it can not only hurt your body, but your mind.

I put the book down and picked up the bottle of water at the side table. It was about 2 in the morning, and I was still up. I don't know exactly why, but something about this book captivated me. Sure, I drank vodka all the time but it's not like I looked up nutrition facts about it. This was, of course, a book to warn you about the troubles of vodka. I was just reading it to see what vodka really was.

Hannah was awake reading a book simply titled Alcoholic. She didn't seem to be in pain, where as I was. It was definitely not as bad as last night, but it was still awful. There was throbbing in my head, and this time my stomach hurt too. I had chills (I couldn't tell whether it was a fever), and my vision was once again going blurry.

Hannah seemed completely fine and not at all fazed by all of this. She looked healthy, happy, and didn't seem to be angry or mad. How could that possibly be? My curiosity was getting the best of me.

"Hannah?" She turned her head and nodded towards me. Her face looked so youthful, not at all alcoholic. "Why aren't you in pain or being bugged by this no having alcohol?" She laughed.

"Emma, I went to the clinic and got a pill. I was going to get a whole bottle to bring back here, but they wouldn't let me because they thought that I wanted to overdose. It works great, takes away all the pain, sweating, headaches, anything. You should go get one."

"I don't think I can move."

"Sorry." She looked back at her book, as I looked back at mine.

Nothing good will come out of drinking too much vodka. Liver failure and loss of brain cells are two major effects from vodka. Your breathing may become heavy and you could obtain bad asthma. This can all happen during the time period of drinking alcohol from anywhere over 2 years.

Is my liver messed up? I had never gotten it checked out before, so it's probably completely shot by now. Do you feel liver failure? Is it one of those diseases like appendicitis where you feel it coming, and then you go to get it removed? I wish I could look it up.

I flipped through all the pages in the book hoping to find out what liver failure could cause. I flipped to the table of contents where it said Index. I flipped to the back of the book, and looked through all the words. They were all diseases and body parts, and then I finally found liver. I went down and found disease written under liver.

Liver disease: Liver disease is a general term for any damage that reduces the functioning of the liver. Depending on what is causing the liver to have liver disease, your liver can completely shut down (how long it takes depends on what caused it to happen).

I felt my body shake, not from the cold but from the words. My stomach automatically started to feel sharp pains, like someone was stabbing it. I opened up the book re-reading the definition over and over again. Is this happening to me right now?
