The next morning Violet got up and got ready. She took a shower and got dressed comfortably. As she was trying to brush her hair she stared into the mirror. The sky blue eyes staring back at her weren’t hers. These ones were filled with worry and un-shed tears. She didn’t know if Phoebe wanted to marry this prince. She certainly knew she didn’t. What was she to do? She could run away. No, she didn’t do that too well. She looked around the unfamiliar room. She could contact the real Phoebe. Yes, that was it, but how? She hadn’t a clue as to how. Just then a knock pulled her out of her thoughts. “Princess Phoebe? Are you alright, my dear?”

Violet snapped back into Phoebe mode. “You may enter.” The door opened a hair to show a brown haired, maid with piercing green eyes. “I am fine, Why do you ask?” Did she do something un-Phoebeish?

“We were just surprised not to see you at breakfast. The prince was worried.” ‘Worried my butt,’ thought Violet.

“I uh, I wasn’t feeling to well.” At the worried expression, Violet held up a hand. “Don’t worry I’ll be better before the party.” Violet sighed as the maid bowed and backed out of the room.

After hours of preparation it was time for the engagement party. Violet was wearing a teal blue dress. It clung to her in all the right places and flowed out towards the bottom. It hung of her hips and had a slit from the bottom, to her knee, on the right side. She was also wearing light blue wrap-around heels that gave her a few inches of height. The dress tied around her neck and she felt overly exposed. Her hair fell down her back in soft ringlets of curls. She was wearing a necklace with a black thick string, and dangling from it was a sliver heart pendent. It was time to make her big appearance so she checked the mirror one last time.

After about an hour into the party people stopped flocking Violet and let her go her own way. She wondered to the back of the room where a giant glass door led to a maze-like garden. Just as she was about to open the door an older looking lady came over to her. “Baby, you look beautiful.”

Violet figured this must be Phoebe’s mom. “Thanks mom.” They both had tears in their eyes as Phoebe’s mom pulled her into a hug. Finally she let her go and Violet made her way to the maze-like garden.

She wondered aimlessly for many minutes until she happened upon a fountain. As she sat on the side and looked into the murky water she began to cry. Her ‘parent’s’ had told her she was adopted a while ago but she didn’t know how her real parents could have given her up. Maybe if they hadn’t she could have lived here. In a family full of love.

She was brought out of her thoughts by a light touch to her shoulder. She slowly turned around, getting ready to run. Instead, sky blue eyes, locked on sky blue eyes. Violet stood up. “Are you Phoebe?”

The girl smiled and Violet realized this girl looked oddly familiar. “Only if your Violet.” Even though Phoebe was angry at Violet she felt sorry for what she had done to her.

“That I am.” Violet and Phoebe looked each other up and down, then circled each other. “You look oddly familiar.”

Phoebe nodded. “As do you, my friend.”  Violet smiled sheepishly and looked down.

“If I was here, that meant you were with my adoptive parents?” Phoebe nodded. “I’m sorry about that.” Violet looked at the ground and crossed her arms. The night air had a chill to it.

Before Phoebe could say anything they both heard footsteps approaching. “There you are Phoebe. I’ve been-“ Prince Edward stopped in his tracks when he saw a straight haired Phoebe and a curly haired Phoebe. “What’s this?”

Violet and Phoebe started humming, What’s This from the Nightmare Before Christmas. Finally the real phoebe, straight haired Phoebe, spoke. “Hey Edward. Uhm, we haven’t actually gotten that far. We’ve only just met.”

Straight haired Phoebe went over and put her hand in Edwards larger one. Violet cast her eyes downward. “It’s a case of mistaken identity. By the way,” she looked at Phoebe, “this is kinda your engagement party.” Phoebe looked at Edward stunned but Violet wasn’t finished yet. “Oh and Edward? My name is Violet.”

Phoebe smiled at both of them. “Eddy, sweetie, we will be in, in a minute.” He kissed her, nodded at Violet, and walked away. After a few minutes Phoebe spoke again. “Well it’s no doubt we’re twins. I look nothing like my parents and you’ve already said, you’re adopted so, what does this mean?”

“That I’m obviously the smarter twin.” Phoebe shot her a pointed look and Violet smirked. “It means we were adopted.”

After settling everything they walked into the giant room. Violet didn’t know what it was called. All eyes were trained on them as they made their way to the front. Phoebe took center stage and smiled at everyone in the room. “As I’m sure you’re all wondering I’m Phoebe, well the real one, and this,” She gestured to Violet, “is my twin Violet. I, myself, have only just met her but I’m sure you’ll all love her like you do me.” They both stepped off the stage and chaos exploded. Everyone talking, music blaring, and both sets of kings and queens trying to scramble over to the laughing twins. One moment of Chaos was all it took though. A snipers bullet shattered the window and a moment later one of the twins fell in a blind pain.
