The oven lit our slow working process
and I think we were baking cookies
at midnight in the dim kitchen
We had forgotten the chocolate chips
and had to substitute them with m&m's
that you scrounged out from the cupboard
"What if everyone forgot everything
they were supposed to remember?"
I asked while cracking an egg
Flour was sprawled across the counter
my tongue-tied words were unknotting
and I was not sure if it was from the lack of sleep
You looked up from my hands
while two egg shells sat empty
but did not bother to throw them away
"As if I forgot your favorite color?"
And only remembered that you tie your shoes
with two bunny ears instead of one?"
I chuckled and flicked some flour at you
"Then I suppose the world wouldn't be so mad."
there was some dotted on your nose
I expected you to toss an m&m back at me
with your mischievous little ways
but you just sprinkled them into the bowl
as I kept stirring
