Justin’s POV

“Alli, are you okay?” I shook her slightly.

She had been standing there for the past minute with a dazed look on her face.

“Alli?” I waved my hand in front of her face. “Babe?”

“Yeah?” she said but with the dazed look still.

“Are you okay?” I asked.

“Yeah, yeah” she waved it off, “I’ll be fine.”

She hurriedly walked into the house and I presumed up the stairs to our bedroom.

“Daddy” Brianna said from beside me, “Why did Mommy look like that just now?”

I gave her a slightly sad smile, “I think your Mom was just really deep in thought. I’m sure she’ll be fine.”

She nodded in acceptance to my answer before skipping off happily into the house.

I knew exactly what Alli was thinking about. I was thinking about the same thing except it’s not as bad for me as it is her because I didn’t experience it, she did.

I felt angry course through me at just the thought of what that bastard did to her.

I mean, he almost killed her!

Angrily, I walked into the house, slamming the door behind me.

As I walked up to my bedroom door, I heard Be Alright Acoustic blasting on the speakers which were inside the room.

“Damn” I muttered.

Be Alright Acoustic – also known as Alli’s crying song.

No matter how old that song may be, Alli never seems to get tired of it as she says it makes her feel better.

I knocked on the door, “Alli, c’mon open the door.”

I heard a sniffle.

“Alli please open the door.”

“Dad” Brianna said from behind me.

I ran my hand through my hair as I turned around.

“Yes honey.”

“What’s wrong with Mom?”

“Nothing’s wrong with her, Brianna. Your mom is just remembering something that happened many years ago” I stated.

“I saw the way Mom looked when Brit’s boyfriend said what his name was. Did Brit’s boyfriend hurt Mom?” she asked.

I crouched down to look her in the eyes.

“No honey, he didn’t. It’s just that-”

“I swear if he hurt Mom I’ll rip his balls off” she said with no hesitation but looking slightly upset.

Taken back by her statement, I looked at her with wide eyes, “Brianna, where do you get these remarks from?”

“Well, since I’m so smart, I come up with them myself. But that last one, I heard Brittany say it” she looked at me innocently.

I rolled my eyes, “You really need to stop hiding in her closet when she’s on the phone.”

“But Dad” she whined, “Her conversations are so interesting.”

“Whatever Brianna. But, I’m sure your mom will appreciate your concern. Once I get inside the room, I’ll tell her just how concerned you are” I patted her shoulder before standing up and turning back to the door.

I heard Brianna laugh behind me before walking right past and turn the door knob, push the door open, and then walk right in.

“Why didn’t I try that first” I thought.

I walked in and saw Brianna now lying in the bed with her arms wrapped around a still crying Alli.

I picked up the stereo remote at the edge of the bed and turned down the music.

“Alli, are you okay?” I asked as I reached the side of the bed.

“Brianna, honey, could you give your father and I a minute?” Alli asked, her voice cracking slightly from crying.

“Okay Mommy.”

Brianna gave Alli a kiss on the cheek before walking out, closing the door behind her.

I laid down beside Alli but she didn’t turn to face me so I simply wrapped my arms around her waist.

“It’s just…I just remembered what was done to me. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I don’t know where it came from but it surely did come and it came hard” she said, tears rolling down her face.

She turned to look at me and then I noticed her puffy, red eyes.

I wiped the tears of her face with my thumbs.

“Through the storm and through the clouds,

Bumps on the road and upside down,

I know it's hard, babe, to sleep at night,

Don't you worry

'cause everything's gonna be alright, ai-ai-ai-aight

Be alright, ai-ai-ai-aight” I sang.

She laughed at me slightly.

“I know you may never forget about what happened, but I want you to know that you’ll always have me and your children at your side because everything’s gonna be alright.”

She buried her face in my chest and I hugged her tighter.

“I love you” I whispered.

“I love you too.”
