I let out a sigh and ran my fingers through my hair, realizing that I'd arranged the books in the wrong order for the third time. Sure, being your science teacher's intern was pretty cool, access to the teacher's lounge and a key to the library, but this part always frustrated me. Why is it so important to organize textbooks by last name?

I shrugged and shook my head, taking the books down again and organizing them. Fourth times a charm, right? I muttered under my breath, bending over to pick up the book I'd dropped.

I knew wearing a skirt was a mistake after I heard the door open.

"Damn. I heard the view at the library was good, but if I'd known it was this good I would've come a whole lot more."

"I thought assholes didn't read?" I said, not bothering to glance up from my books.

"I thought good girls didn't swear," Conner replied, making his way over to me.

"Just tell me what you want and then leave. I have better things to do with my time," I rolled my eyes and turned to face him.

Conner may be a jerk and a player, but he was not hard to look at. His chisled jawline and messy hair were every girls weakness. Except me. I didn't care. I mean, I don't care.

"Fiesty Maddi. I like it," he smirked.

"Conner really. I don't have all day to listen to you confess your undying love for me. I'm losing IQ points just looking at you," I retorted.

Okay, maybe I was a bit harsh. It's probably just because I was so annoyed at these damn books. Or that he was distracting me from them. Or both. I'm not really sure.

"Ouch. Anyways I'm doing a project on Geologic Time and I need some books. Can you hook me up?" Conner asked, actually being serious for once.

"Sure. Science and nature books are over to your left. I just organized them so try not to mess them up, ok?"

"You got it, Cupcake" he said with a wink.

"Don't call me Cupcake" I said bluntly.

"Whatever you say, Pumpkin," Conner grinned and ran over to the books so I couldn't say anything back.

Sometimes that boy annoyed the heck out of me. He was the biggest dick at Lincoln High. Why would he choose to annoy someone like me when they were tons of hotter girls that he could take advantage of. Why me, Conner? Why do you have to make my days miserable?

A loud thump knocked me back into reality.

"What the hell Conner?!" I yelled, seeing that he had completely dumped out the science books I organized.

"I couldnt't find the book I needed. I thought maybe there was another row behind the first. I'm sorry," he said, looking down at his feet.

It seemed geniuine. Maybe he actually has feelings. Maybe he didn't try to, I thought. Cut it out. He just wants in your pants, I argued with myself.

"Do you want me to stay and help you reorganize them again?" he offered.

"Frankly I don't want you anywhere near me right now. Do you know how long that took me? 100 books alphabetically. Then people like you come around screwing everything up. Just leave."
