Arriving at the house Peter stays in the car while Max goes in the house to ask for permission. Melissa opens the door and steps outside in her furry robe. "Please Melissa, he's not gay I promise. He's an old friend of mine." Melissa looks in the car. She takes a quick judge and nods to Max walking back inside.
Max and Peter bring in his bags taking them up to the room. They set everything in the closet and get ready for bed. "Well, I guess your sleeping in here. Might as well get ready for...bed." says Max.
Peter takes off his shirt and grabs a blanket to lay on the floor. Max changes in the bathroom. Peter lays there trying to fall asleep.
In Max's return to the room he lifts the sheets and lays down. "Peter...you don't have to-"
Peter interrupts, "I don't want any sexual tension between you and I. It's a choice, don't offer." Max turns the other direction closing his eyes. Peter sits looking out the balcony. "Your view is beautiful." he compliments.
"Max turns to the balcony and sits up grinning. "Yea it is." Peter stands and slowly walks his way out to the balcony. The wind blows across his face as he closes his eyes to smell the fresh air.
Max stays in his position looking up at the ceiling. "I never thought I would be here...in California. Especially coming across you." mentions Peter.
"Neither did I. My mom sent me here due to the bruises she kept having to see on my face when I came home from school. I felt she was over dramatic about it all. You know?"
Peter comes back in to sit on the edge of the bed. "She just wants the best for you. She was afraid and needed you safe. That's what mothers do. They protect you from harm...mine tried."
Max looks at Peter who has his face covered by his hands. "I'm sorry you went through that tradegy. Your mom and sister were good people...I remember her sweet smile, blue eyes, and lushes blonde locks always flowing around in fall." Peter begins to cry still covering his face. "Peter it's okay...let it out. It would make you feel better." Max comforts Peter while making his way over to hug him.
Peter leans his head against Max's shoulder as they look out the balcony doors. The stars shine in the night's sky, the ocean crashes against the rocks, and the wind blows ever so slightly, giving that little bit of breeze to the air.
Max stays next to Peter while he sits thinking. No intension is made by Max, whose just tyring to be a supportive friend. Peter lifts his head from Max's shoulder, but remains seated at the edge. Max has the urge to ask a question he's always wanted to understand about Peter. "Hey...I need to ask you something."
Peter looks at him, "What? "
Max hesitates and lets out a sigh, "The night when we went camping...the days following...then the years much later...did you really know you were...gay?"
Peter looks down answering, "...I don't know. When you kissed me that night, I just felt...loved. When I treated you like shit, I needed to make it up to you the years later...but when we kissed for that long period of time in middle school....I felt like....I really loved you back. I don't know."
Max's wants to scoots closer to Peter, but he remains still. " Have you been with...another guy, or girl...since?"
Peter grins and pushes his hair back, "Um...not a guy. I dated Tanya, Tanya Mills Freshman year. But I didn't feel anything with her. The main reason we broke up six months later. Have you?"
"Uh...well there was Joshua Spencer in the eighth grade, until he moved. Timothy Wescott and Julio Garcia in High School as well. Our relationships weren't as serious though, they were, I guess in the same place you are. Then I met Timothy...." Max smiles.
Peter makes a modest giggle, "Well you kept in the lupe. You got over me pretty fast I see." Max laughs and walks to the balcony. Peter follows grabbing a cigarette to smoke.
"I did date quite a lot of guys, but I mean... you were always in my head. Honestly, you know what I just figured out? You were jealous."
Peter laughs, "Jealous? What makes you think that?" Max jumps onto the wall to sit.
"Well, you never beat on me when I was alone, but everytime I was with a guy you had a reason." Peter finishes his smoke and sits on the white chairs next the table.
"I...uhm..." he laughs not knowning what to say.
Max smiles laughing as he jumps off the wall, "See you did". They walk back inside; Max goes to the bed and Peter lays on the floor.
"Well goodnight Peter" Max soflty utters.
Peter turns to his side, "Night Max".
